Position Overview The General Manager leads a Pet Care Center, driving sales growth and ensuring animal welfare. The GM manages a team of center managers, partners and leaders, focusing on talent acquisition, training, guest service, sales, and process excellence.
Position Responsibilities
People : Build and retain a diverse team that delivers exceptional service and guest loyalty, train and develop leaders, create a positive culture of teamwork and inclusion.
Performance : Meet or exceed center sales, profitability and operational goals, schedule labor, interpret financial reports, and identify improvement strategies.
Process : Manage animal welfare and health, merchandising, inventory, payroll, safety, and store appearance in compliance with PetCo standards.
Other Essential Duties : Model leadership and selling behaviors, promote safety, foster a collaborative culture, prioritize talent development, and engage partners. Represent PetCo’s brand at the highest level.
Education And Experience
High school diploma or GED; proficiency in business, finance, analysis and problem‑solving.
Excellent communication and computer skills.
Three or more years of management experience (retail preferred).
Strong organizational skills and customer‑service orientation.
Valid driver’s license.
Supervisory Responsibility The General Manager directly supervises a team of leaders and is responsible for all Pet Care Center partners.
Work Environment Primarily indoor duties; occasional stocking, delivery, and bank deposits. Requires bending, kneeling, moving merchandise up to 50 lb, and standing for long periods. Limited travel.
