Lead Technologist (Special Procedures)
Under general supervision, the incumbent is responsible for technical work involving the operation of complex x‑ray equipment for the purpose of taking radiographs of various designated portions of the body using special procedures, to assist physicians in the detection of foreign bodies and the diagnosis of diseases and injuries.
Key Responsibilities
Position patients and prepare for taking x‑rays using special procedures such as CAT scan, angiographic or neurographic studies.
Make adjustments to x‑ray equipment to correct settings for each examination taking into consideration proper voltage, current and desired exposure time as prescribed by the attending physician.
Takes x‑rays as prescribed or requisitioned of all parts of the body for diagnostic purposes.
Develops or reviews the development of exposed films.
Prepares and maintains records and files of radiographs; purges outdated files as directed.
Troubleshoots and maintains x‑ray equipment; requisitions film and supplies as needed; mails x‑ray films to organizations and physicians, as requested.
Provides training and technical direction to lower level technicians and non‑professional support staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes
Thorough knowledge of the techniques used in radiography, including those used for special procedures such as CAT scan, angiographic and neurographic studies.
Good knowledge of all modern procedures and techniques involved in the taking of x‑ray films for diagnostic purposes.
Skill in the operation and minor repair of x‑ray producing equipment.
Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written directions; ability to direct and instruct others.
Ability to handle sick and injured patients properly; thoroughness; reliability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the requirements of the position.
Minimum Acceptable Training and Experience
Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Health as a Radiologic Technologist in the field of diagnostic radiography, and two years experience in a hospital x‑ray department or a private radiological laboratory performing all types of diagnostic work including the operation of special procedures equipment such as CAT scan, angiographic or neurographic equipment.
Special Requirements
Must be certified and maintain current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in the field of Radiography.
