About Business Development at Ropes & Gray The Business Development Department’s commercial objective is to grow firm revenue and market share by collaborating with partners, attorneys, and business colleagues to leverage and generate the firm’s offering.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute integrated marketing and business development plans to grow Ropes & Gray’s share of wallet, increase brand visibility, attract new clients, and drive client satisfaction and loyalty.

Collaborate with practice group partners and global teams to implement business and client development plans for target clients, including budget planning and identifying joint initiatives to grow revenue.

Manage and drive development of existing client relationships and the pursuit of new engagements, coordinating with internal business‑development and practice‑development colleagues.

Project‑manage and execute large pitches, proposals, and RFPs, leading strategies, differentiators, and documentation.

Support and participate in client feedback and market intelligence activities, including research and trend analysis.

Serve as a trusted advisor to attorneys on business‑development strategy, pitch preparation, and post‑pitch client engagement.

Lead and develop junior business‑development team members, fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and professionalism.

Qualifications

Superior client‑service skills with the ability to quickly establish credibility with lead partners and key stakeholders.

Commercially minded, solution‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Excellent organization, communication, and project‑management skills; high attention to detail.

Effective written and verbal communication with attorneys and business professionals.

Prior experience in business‑development within a professional‑services or corporate environment, preferably in asset or investment management.

Leadership experience managing a team of direct reports.

Minimum eight years of business‑development experience in a professional‑services firm or corporate setting.

Education & Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree (MBA/JD preferred but not required).

Professional experience managing direct reports.

Knowledge of asset management, investment management, or related financial services preferred.

Compensation & Total Rewards Package Eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to a competitive salary range. Boston: $150,100 – $240,150. New York: $161,000 – $257,600.

Working Conditions This position requires hybrid on‑site presence as an essential function of the role. Consistent and predictable on‑site presence is required for ongoing business continuity and collaboration.
