Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Automation and Controls professional to lead complex industrial control system initiatives within regulated manufacturing environments. This role plays a critical leadership function, overseeing the full lifecycle of automation projects—from initial concept and detailed design through implementation, commissioning, and validation. The ideal candidate will provide technical direction, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure systems meet regulatory, safety, and operational requirements, particularly within pharmaceutical and life sciences facilities. Key Responsibilities Lead automation and control system projects independently, managing scope, schedule, and technical execution Apply and interpret relevant industry standards and codes to ensure compliant system designs Develop, review, and approve engineering studies, system architectures, and detailed design documentation Prepare and evaluate technical specifications, construction documents, and cost estimates Provide technical oversight to engineers, designers, and drafters, ensuring quality and consistency across deliverables Coordinate control system designs with electrical, mechanical, process, and other engineering disciplines Oversee development of control panels, motor control centers, and associated wiring and layout drawings Interface directly with regulatory authorities, inspectors, and project stakeholders as needed to resolve technical or code-related issues Support field activities including installation oversight, system startup, commissioning, and qualification Engage with clients and contractors to define requirements, resolve challenges, and maintain strong working relationships Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution Advanced degree preferred Professional Engineer license is advantageous At least 8 years of experience in industrial control system design and implementation Minimum 3 years supporting projects in pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated life sciences environments Proven experience designing and programming PLC-, HMI-, and DCS-based control systems Strong knowledge of digital and analog instrumentation, including process measurement and analytical devices Experience specifying electrical components and field devices such as VFDs, MCCs, motor starters, and control hardware Demonstrated ability to produce and review electrical and control construction drawing packages Hands-on experience programming and modifying industrial automation platforms, including Rockwell-based systems Familiarity with industrial networking and communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus) Exposure to SCADA systems, data historians, and database integration is beneficial Working knowledge of hazardous area classifications and applicable electrical safety standards Ability to develop and interpret P&IDs and contribute to system control philosophies Understanding of GMP requirements and life sciences validation frameworks Experience supporting system testing, acceptance, and qualification activities preferred Strong communication skills and the ability to manage client-facing technical discussions Competitive annual salary commensurate with experience ($130K-$180K) 2 days in office / 3 days WFH Performance-based profit sharing or bonus program Paid time off and recognized holidays Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance options Company-sponsored life and disability coverage Retirement savings plan with employer contribution Access to flexible benefits and wellness programs Seniority level
