Senior Firmware Engineer (Med Device)

This position supports verification and validation of embedded firmware used in Class III active implantable medical devices, offering meaningful technical challenges, cross‑functional collaboration, and the opportunity to convert to a permanent role after one year.
Location: Irvine, CA
Hours & Pay
Pay Rate: $82 per hour
Employment Type: 1‑Year Contract with option to convert to permanent
What You’ll Do (Daily Tasks)
Develop and execute firmware test plans, protocols, and reports aligned with IEC 62304 and FDA requirements
Perform risk‑based unit and integration testing in accordance with IEC 62304, IEC 60601, and related standards
Produce high‑quality test documentation suitable for audits and regulatory submissions under ISO 14971
Design, implement, and maintain automated test frameworks supporting CI/CD pipelines
Support test infrastructure development, including hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) and simulation environments
Collaborate with software developers and system engineers to define test requirements and ensure full coverage
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and integration activities
Support testing for both product firmware and manufacturing process software
What We’re Looking For (Requirements)
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of software testing experience in a regulated environment (medical device experience strongly preferred)
Hands‑on experience with C# and test automation frameworks
Experience using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bitbucket, and JIRA
Working knowledge of IEC 62304, IEC 60601, ISO 14971, and V&V processes for Class III medical devices
Proven ability to generate compliant documentation for regulatory and audit purposes
Preferred Experience
Firmware testing for Class III active implantable medical devices
Risk‑based testing and traceability tools such as Cognition Cockpit
Supporting product integration initiatives and working with global, cross‑functional teams
