Job Description The Computational Microscopy Imaging Lab (CMIL), within the Department of Medicine, is seeking a highly experienced and strategically minded Data Scientist IV to support integration of biomedical imaging, spatial omics, and clinical data into scalable research infrastructure. This senior-level role will provide advanced workflow development, software engineering, and analytic support to NIH-funded research initiatives. The successful candidate will lead efforts to harmonize complex data sources, apply advanced statistical methods, and develop reproducible computational pipelines that support translational research. This position also includes mentoring junior data analysts, student researchers, and technical interns. The Data Scientist IV will report to Dr. Pinaki Sarder, Principal Investigator.

Essential Functions Workflow Engineering and Data Integration

Architect and lead the development of scalable pipelines for processing histology, spatial omics, and clinical datasets

Ensure analytic workflows are modular, reproducible, and version-controlled using GitHub

Oversee optimization of pipeline execution on high-performance computing platforms such as HiPerGator

Statistical and Computational Analysis

Apply and adapt statistical modeling techniques to multi-modal biomedical datasets

Lead efforts in feature extraction and harmonization for machine learning integration

Conduct rigorous data validation and quality assurance processes across diverse data types

Software Development and Infrastructure Support

Design and maintain advanced tools, APIs, and visualization interfaces that support research scalability

Implement best practices in software architecture, testing, and secure deployment

Collaborate with institutional IT and external partners to ensure technical integration and compliance

Research Collaboration and Communication

Serve as a technical liaison to translate scientific objectives into executable data strategies

Contribute to high-level research outputs including manuscripts, reports, and grant applications

Represent the lab in institutional initiatives and cross-institutional collaborations

Strategic Innovation and Mentorship

Guide adoption of innovative tools and workflows aligned with lab research goals

Provide structured mentorship to junior staff, graduate students, and interns

Help shape long-term strategic planning for data standards and technical capabilities

Expected Salary $98,000 – $132,900 annually

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and seven years of experience

Master's Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and five years of experience

Doctoral Degree in data science, statistics, bioinformatics, analytics, or similar field and three years of experience

Preferred Qualifications

Expertise with spatial omics platforms (e.g., Visium, CODEX), digital pathology, and histological imaging

Proficiency in Python, GitHub, and high-performance computing systems (e.g., HiPerGator)

Experience with secure software design, MLOps practices, and containerization tools (Docker, Singularity)

Familiarity with statistical modeling, feature engineering, and data visualization

Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in interdisciplinary research settings
