Position Purpose The Senior Data Scientist leads data‑science initiatives that drive business profitability, increase efficiencies, and improve customer experience. This role assists in developing Home Depot’s advanced analytics infrastructure, leveraging data science to gain a competitive advantage. The position requires proficiency in at least one data‑science specialization (e.g., optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP) and the ability to collaborate across product, project, and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Development (35%): Design and develop algorithms and models for large datasets, ensuring high quality and efficiency; communicate insights and recommendations to technical and non‑technical leaders; prepare reports and presentations on project progress.

Project Management & Team Support (30%): Set project goals, prioritize work, mentor junior data scientists, collaborate with managers on workload distribution, and support recruiting and hiring.

Business Collaboration (20%): Leverage business knowledge to shape solutions, build relationships with internal customers, provide advanced analytics education, and identify new opportunities for data‑science impact.

Technical Exploration & Development (15%): Stay current on data‑science developments, produce reproducible solutions (e.g., code libraries, documentation), define best practices for model production, and contribute reusable algorithms.

Minimum Qualifications

18+ years of age.

Legally permitted to work in the United States.

PhD in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, etc.).

6+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.

Proficient in modern scripting language (preferably Python).

Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.

Skill in running queries (preferably BigQuery or SQL).

Experience with data‑visualization tools (preferably Tableau).

Proficiency with prescriptive modeling (optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search, or NLP).

Demonstrated proficiency in predictive modeling, data mining, and data analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional years of experience in advanced analytics.

Exceptional communication and collaboration skills.

Experience building and scaling data‑science teams.
