Seasonal Gardener – Horticulture and Landscape (6‑Month Term Appointment)
Join the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University as a Seasonal Gardener. The position starts in early spring 2026, is a six‑month term appointment, and requires full‑time employment Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week (7:00 AM to 3:30 PM).
Company Description The Arnold Arboretum is a 281‑acre museum of trees that educates the world about plants. As part of the Harvard University system, it hosts 3‑4 million visitors each year and offers world‑class research and horticultural programming.
Job Summary The Seasonal Gardener works in the Horticulture and Landscape Department, contributing to the stewardship of one of North America’s finest woody plant collections. Responsibilities include routine lawn and landscape maintenance, integrated pest management, pruning, transplanting, and support for collection renovation projects.
Job‑Specific Responsibilities
Weeding, mulching, and brush chipping
Pruning
Transplanting
Watering
IPM (Integrated Pest Management) practices
Mowing, string trimming, and leaf clean‑up
Litter management
Operation and maintenance of various equipment
Landscape maintenance and collection renovation projects as needed
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of one year experience in horticulture or a related field
Valid driver’s license
Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, carrying, and transporting up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand for eight hours per day
Work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation
Availability to respond to weather‑related emergencies affecting the grounds

Standard hours/schedule: 40 hours per week

Pre‑employment screening: DOT Physical, Drug Screening, RMV check, and driver’s license verification
Orientation and review period: 3 months
