Overview The Exterior Systems and Lighting Team within Scout is a very exciting and dynamic group to be a part of. Our team works on components you see on the exterior of the car. In this role, you will specifically be working on exterior trim components.
What you’ll do
Responsible for managing a team for the design and release of Exterior Trim (upper, lower and underbody) from concept to production, ensuring appropriate vehicle connection points both mechanical and electrical are present in the base truck and SUV vehicle architectures.
Participate in and/or lead development of RFQ packages, tech reviews, and supplier selection.
Hire, train and develop a highly skilled and competent team to deliver commodities on time and on cost within the Scout process.
Lead Product Development Team(s) to collaborate cross‑functionally across Scout internal functions and suppliers to set design direction, and lead development, packaging, and execution of unique Scout accessories to bring them to market.
Contribute to the development of product specification books, test plans, DVP&R, DFMEA, Control Plans, and Quality Assurance requirements.
Direct design and analysis groups to create 3D math models (CAD), complete 3D packaging, and validate with analytical models (FEA, CFD, etc.) to fulfill functional and design requirements, and ensure compatibility, using Design Rules, Regulatory items, and attributes such as NVH, water management, craftsmanship, etc.
Be a key member and decision maker within the technical leadership team and liaison with all Scout functional teams.
Develop and maintain all component and subsystem requirements and specifications, including device transmittals and interface control documents (ICD).
Be involved with managing resources efficiently including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners and people.
Ensure all program targets, including Piece Cost, ED&D Budget, Timing, Weight, and Quality, are met.
Track open issues and collaborate with other functional groups as needed to drive issues to resolution efficiently and effectively.
Ensure on‑time validation and adequate testing coverage for all requirements (component, system and vehicle) is achieved and traceability is maintained for assigned systems and components.
Conduct product evaluation and design reviews during prototype and pre‑production development phases.
Develop prototypes for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
Proactively stay attuned to new advancements, market trends, consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.
Follow automotive industry design best practices, such as Robust Engineering, Design for Manufacturability, and Design for Serviceability.
Location & Travel Expectations
This role will be based out of the future Scout Motors corporate headquarters, which is anticipated to be identified in 2025. The role may be remote to start but will transition to an in‑office setting at the headquarters after location is determined. This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City.
The responsibilities of this role require 3‑4 days attendance in office with in‑person meetings and events regularly.
Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.
Travel: Domestic and international travel required, approximately 25% of the time. Local travel (25%) international travel (5%). Valid driver's license required. Passport required.
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a relevant field.
15+ years of experience in body mechanical areas and relevant automotive assignments, including all three phases of product development (Design, Test and Launch).
Skilled in utilizing CATIA for designing and developing detailed parts.
Strong technical skills and expertise in exterior plastics systems, coupled with a first‑principles approach to problem solving.
High level of oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
Familiarity with computer‑aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
Ability to build strong working relationships with people across all organizational levels and functional teams.
Strong sense of teamwork, able to act as a mentor to less experienced engineers.
Experience working on Electric Vehicle programs desirable.
Experience with Class‑A surface development desirable.
Comfort with ambiguity and ability to thrive in fast‑paced environments.
Minimum of High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required for all roles at Scout Motors, Inc.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, approximately 25% of the time.
Valid driver's license required.
Passport required.

Initial base salary range: $140,000.00 – $170,000.00
