Amazon
Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network whose mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities worldwide. The system is designed for high capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
We are seeking an innovative and solution‑oriented System Development Engineer (SysDE II) to join our team to develop innovative solutions and automated pipelines for deploying SCADA infrastructure and platform as a service. This role combines hardware, software, OT and IT stack development for SCADA infrastructure and platform within an active satellite manufacturing facility.
In this position, you will primarily work on backend code for IAC, CDK, and pipelines of full SCADA infrastructure and platform lifecycle to abstract SCADA deployment and configuration from SCADA Application development. You will provide engineering excellence for reliability and disaster recovery while ensuring optimal developer experience for SCADA application developers and system integrators. Ideal candidates have direct hands‑on experience deploying Ignition SCADA Platform through modern DevOps practices at scale.
Key Job Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable backend infrastructure for Ignition SCADA platform deployments
Develop CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code using DevOps practices for SCADA system provisioning
Build automated deployment frameworks and configuration tools for Ignition SCADA applications
Architect cloud‑native and hybrid infrastructure solutions supporting OT/IT convergence and SCADA scalability
Develop backend services, APIs, and data integration layers supporting SCADA applications and manufacturing interoperability
Create infrastructure monitoring, logging, and observability solutions for SCADA platform health and performance
Implement security frameworks and compliance controls for OT infrastructure following industry best practices
Build self‑service infrastructure provisioning tools and maintain technical documentation for deployment procedures
Lead technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis for infrastructure issues affecting SCADA availability
Support operations through infrastructure automation, reducing manual intervention and improving reliability
Drive continuous improvement for infrastructure deployment speed, reliability, and cost optimization
Collaborate with production, engineering, IT, and procurement teams while managing escalations and coordinating incident resolution
Export Control Requirement Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A Day in the Life This highly collaborative position interfaces across multiple Amazon Leo teams in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will have strong experience in automation technology development, with the ability to understand and contribute to platform‑as‑a‑service development, reliability metrics, and developer experience and testing within critical automated manufacturing systems.
The role requires hands‑on technical expertise combined with strategic thinking to drive continuous improvement and deliver business‑aligned solutions in an active production facility. The typical schedule requires five days in‑person per week, with participation in on‑call and weekend rotations to align with Leo production shifts.
About The Team The Ground Support Equipment (GSE) team is responsible for designing and commissioning automation and tooling for satellite testing and production. This in‑house team of engineers and support technicians works directly with satellite designers, testers, and manufacturing engineers to solve unique problems in high‑volume satellite production.
Basic Qualifications
