About Our Client:
They are a rapidly growing start-up on a mission to improve the lives of healthcare providers by simplifying supply ordering, providing transparent pricing, and modernizing a previously outdated process. They are targeting the $100+ billion office-based healthcare supply industry, starting with dental practices. Their innovative e-commerce platform streamlines procurement for dental practices while securing the best prices for products. They are also expanding into intelligent solutions that leverage AI to further support and empower healthcare providers in their day-to-day operations.
This hybrid role sits in their Flatiron office at 49 W 23rd St, Floor 3 - a central NYC spot surrounded by great food, coffee and easy transit. It’s a space designed for focused work, fast iteration, and collaboration with others.
They are a close-knit team that enjoys collaborating to solve real-world problems. They obsess over customer satisfaction, promote a strong bias for action, encourage team members to engage in impactful work, and foster a one-team culture. Their goal is to create better solutions to help healthcare professionals succeed, and they are looking for people like you to help bring this vision to life.
Your Impact As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll play a key role in evolving the platform’s architecture, building high-performance distributed systems, and developing agentic workflows that power our next generation of AI-enabled product experiences. You’ll design the backend systems that support LLM-powered features at scale—whether that means orchestrating web or voice agents to fetch data, building reliable workflows and safeguards for ingestion and normalization, or ensuring everything operates securely and compliantly.
This role is designed to grow with you: engineers are encouraged to expand their responsibility, deepen technical ownership, and shape the direction of our platform based on their ambition and interests.
Responsibilities
Design, integrate, and operate LLM-powered and agentic workflows for claims data
Build and maintain HIPAA-compliant systems for sensitive healthcare data
Lead decisions around security, compliance, cost, performance, and scaling of AI workloads
Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability systems for AI pipelines and production models
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, and operations teams to integrate AI capabilities into the platform
Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices for backend engineering and agentic workflows
What we are looking for
5+ years of experience in software engineering
Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and deploying secure, compliant workloads
Demonstrated record of building scalable, secure, and reliable systems
Comfortable collaborating with non-engineers, including product managers, designers, and business stakeholders
Bonus
Experience leading AI infrastructure projects end-to-end in a startup environment
Contributed to architecture or coding standards for engineering teams
Experience in early-stage product ideation and design for AI-enabled features
Hands-on experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform, Pulumi) for provisioning and managing cloud resources
