EMG is affiliated with Eskenazi Health and employs physician and advanced practice providers who support the Eskenazi Health system. Responsibilities
Direct clinical service activities:
Diagnose mental illness/addictions consistent with the most recent version of the DSM.
Initiate and review the efficacy of ongoing treatment, including medication, psychotherapies, laboratory monitoring, and treatment plans in accordance with organizational, state, and national standards of care.
Determine necessity and level of care, including clinical risk‑management evaluations.
Review and sign treatment plans, providing additional recommendations as necessary.
Complete necessary medical documentation in a consistent and timely manner in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
Provide consultation.
Perform medical screening and evaluations of patients.
Evaluate need for and order seclusion and/or restraints.
Provide documentation and/or testimony to legal entities to initiate, maintain, or determine the course of treatment for patients.
Modify treatment to ensure adequate care appropriate to the age, gender, cultural background, and other relevant patient characteristics.
Make appropriate referrals to clinical services unavailable at Eskenazi Health Center or Eskenazi Health, and assist in facilitating these referrals.
Provide services at agreed‑upon clinics and locations, and participate in overnight, weekend, and holiday call as assigned.
Maintain service provision standards as outlined by the CEO of Eskenazi Health Centers, the Chief of Psychiatric Services, and the Chief Medical Officer of Eskenazi Health Centers.
Collaborate with all areas of Eskenazi Health and service providers to optimize clinical outcomes.
Comply with all regulatory directives.
Participate in ongoing professional performance‑review discussions.
Associated Job Duties
Leadership Activities:
Participate in medical staff meetings, ongoing administrative meetings, and clinical/team meetings to support achieving organizational goals.
Maintain a flexible schedule as necessary to meet the needs of patients, staff, and the organization.
Uphold the mission and values of Eskenazi Medical Group and Eskenazi Health.
Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the medical staff by‑laws and all relevant manuals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Administrative and Review Activities:
Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of standards of care, policies, procedures, and patient‑care methods.
Participate in the performance review of coworkers as appropriate.
Notify Eskenazi Health Center Administration and Legal Services of unexpected outcomes and potential complications surrounding patient care.
Educational Activities:
Provide formal and informal clinical supervision and professional development to students, residents, APPs, and all staff members.
Participate in live and/or online educational activities necessary to maintain privileging and as determined necessary.
Scholarly Activities:
May design and implement research studies in the area of expertise.
May present clinical information and research findings at local, regional, and national meetings.
May publish educational material, journal articles, books, and other print or online material to enhance clinical care and services.
May participate in professional organizations, community service activities, and affiliate with the IUSOM Department of Psychiatry.
Supervisory Responsibilities Supervise students, residents, and other trainees at EHC as assigned by the CPE or Medical Director.

Knowledge base:
DSM criteria for mental illness/addiction (latest edition).
Diagnostic psychiatric interview skills, basic physical examination, laboratory ordering, and interpretation.
Risk assessment and legal procedures such as emergency detentions, commitments, duty to warn, and CPS/APS notifications.
Detoxification protocols and medication‑assisted treatments for substance use disorders.
Clinical care boundaries, therapeutic and legal issues related to clinical discharge from care.
Principles of individual, group, couples, and family therapy.
Billing procedures.
HIPAA guidelines and implementation.
Computer skills: email, Microsoft Word, Excel, internet use, and electronic medical records including e‑prescribing.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must meet and maintain current Eskenazi Health credentialing and privileging requirements.
Indiana State Medical License in good standing, with associated CSR.
DEA certification; X‑DEA waiver if appropriate for clinical setting.
Medicare, Medicaid, and NPI provider numbers.
