Medical Technologist / Lab Technologist
Join the growing Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH) team and make a difference in people’s lives. Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Manager and/or Team Leader, you will process specimens, route them to the appropriate laboratories for analysis, differentiate approximately 1,000 tests on file, and be familiar with patient and specimen requirements. You will also respond to telephone inquiries from laboratory personnel, physicians, or other interested parties and resolve routine problems. Specimen processing includes verifying collection and identification, performing computer data entry (ordering or resulting tests, reviewing patient information, and receiving specimens), and conducting clinical assays such as urinalysis and blood gases. Additional responsibilities may include training new employees. Coverage includes rotating weekends and holidays. Phlebotomy is required.
Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree with a concentration in science
Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry or by American Medical Technologists (AMT) preferred. Once certified, promotion to Medical Lab Scientist 2 follows.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Analytic ability to perform moderately complex tests, interpret findings, perform calculations, calibrate, and troubleshoot instruments used.
Ability to identify and evaluate clinical testing problems and to effect corrective action procedures and modifications.
Manual dexterity and acuity necessary to prepare specimens, screen specimens, prepare solutions, and operate instrumentation and a computer.
Ability to concentrate for long periods, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure, and handle stress to meet deadlines.
Interpersonal verbal and written English language skills sufficient to exchange information with physicians and colleagues.
Work requires the ability to perform venipuncture techniques.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Preferred Experience Experience: Preferred but not required.
Pay Range 36.00 – 48.45 USD per hour (base hourly wage range). Actual compensation is determined based on seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, and other factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base rate for shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices.
