Duties and Responsibilities
Must manage the plant in an efficient manner in accordance with company guidelines and policies under the direction of the Northwest Regional Manager.
Ensure that the operation of the facility will comply with all mandated requirements as dictated by company, city, county, state and federal laws and regulations. This includes preparing various operating permits on behalf of the Division and providing these permits to the Northwest Regional Manager to be reviewed before being filed.
Direct and guide plant staff through various methods of communications, such as staff meetings, e‑mails, one‑on‑one discussion, etc, to meet performance goals established by the Northwest Regional Manager. Responsible for controlling costs and maximizing profits by employing operating standards.
Will assist in the interviewing and recommendation of new hire applicants and direct, guide, and instruct personnel in accordance with company policies to ensure the efficient operation of the facilities with the approval of the Northwest Regional Manager. This position also makes disciplinary and termination recommendations for plant personnel but not decisions.
Ensure that all employees follow and adhere to all company policy and guidelines, including quality control, HAACP, APPI and safety regulations.
Direct, maintain and coordinate activities of plant personnel to obtain optimum efficiency and maintain the plant in excellent operating condition and clean environment.
React to related production problems (such as weekly yield issues) by pursuing and implementing remedies to such problems. Evaluate the production process and investigate major issues and ensure that corrective action is taken. Also communicate major operating issues timely to the Northwest Regional Manager.
Responsible for coordinating finished product shipping, throughput of production and quality control procedures.
Manage the plant maintenance activities and schedule predetermined downtime for performing necessary preventive maintenance. Will also work with maintenance staff to determine maintenance needs for the plant and office through regular physical inspections of the plant and office areas, reviews of maintenance logs, and discussions with personnel. Major repairs should be communicated with the Northwest Regional Manager.
Manage the required labor force. Responsible for the understanding of various plant personnel’s job functions. Review time cards/plant sheets, vacation schedules and schedule shift start and stop times. Review, evaluate and resolve any discrepancies in accordance with company policies and applicable legal application. Evaluate employee performance and develop employee potential.
Review and understand various reports, including plant production reports, yield reports, payroll reports and monthly financial reports, and make recommendations to the Northwest Regional Manager for ways to improve production and financial results. Also correspond with Accounting regarding unusual fluctuations in production and financial results.
Maintain and promote safety regulations as it pertains to the Baker internal safety program for the facility to ensure a safe working environment.
Ensure that the plant and all equipment are maintained in an orderly and clean condition.
Provide a weekly activity report that is to be submitted by 9:00 AM every Monday, to the Northwest Regional Manager. Communicate issues to the Northwest Regional Manager and on a daily basis.
Notify the Northwest Regional Manager about any changes in the quality and quantity of raw material being received and finished product being delivered.
Review and understand the union contracts for plant personnel.
Notify the Northwest Regional Manager about taking time off of work ahead of time.
Oversee the wastewater sampling procedures, all meter reading and sampling collections.
Keep up regular attendance and punctuality; regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company.
Perform other duties as required by the Northwest Regional Manager and Corporate Management.
Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner.
Follow department and company procedures.
Other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the business. These responsibilities may change from time to time as business needs evolve over time.
Requirements Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Professional Certifications, Education, Experience and Travel Requirements
Must be knowledgeable of CMPAF (Cattle Material Prohibited in Animal Feed) and APPI (Animal Protein Producers Industry) material procedures and documentation.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Basic electrical; including motors, controls and variable frequency drives.
Ability to perform basic plumbing repairs.
Strong organizational skills for recordkeeping.
High School degree or equivalent.
2-3 years experience in supervisory or leadership role.
Less than 20% travel requirement.
Physical Demands/Requirements Constantly (over 2/3)
Communicates with vendors, contractors and co‑workers and exchanges accurate information in‑person, telephonically and via electronic devices/e‑mail.
Operates and uses maintenance/mechanic tools including electrical hand tools.
Must be able to position self to maintain equipment or perform duties of repairing and maintaining vehicles and work equipment.
Must be able to move around industrial equipment in manufacturing facility.
Must be able to detect and observe equipment in need of repair.
Frequently (1/3‑2/3)
Operates computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine and printer.
Review documents, organize data and detect accuracy of information.
Move and transport material, equipment and tools up to 70 lbs with and without specialized lifting, moving and rigging equipment.
Moves across wet/slippery and uneven surfaces.
Exposed to materials that occasionally require use of PPE such as gloves (protect from heat).
Occasionally (under 1/3)
Exposed to work in outdoor weather conditions.
