We are seeking a skilled Brazilian/ Portuguese CAT II Linguist to provide part-time, ad hoc support for a U.S. government client. The role involves delivering accurate translations, transcriptions, interpretations, and summaries of Brazilian/Portuguese language materials into English, as well as English into Brazilian/Portuguese
Work may involve handling text, audio, and video sources, and requires a high degree of linguistic accuracy, cultural knowledge, and confidentiality
This is a remote position with flexible, on-demand work hours to support high-priority, real-world operational needs
Responsibilities
Provide accurate, complete, and trusted interpretation and/or translation of data from a variety of sources
Translate written, aural, video, and other source materials from Brazilian/Portuguese into English and English into Brazilian/Portuguese
Produce verbatim transcriptions and culturally accurate translations
Summarize documents and audio/video recordings when full translation is not required
Review translations for accuracy and ensure substantive conformity between source and target languages
Advise on cultural and linguistic nuances to ensure clarity and accuracy
Support high-priority operational tasks as assigned by the client
Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of work
Qualifications
Fluent in Brazilian/Portuguese and English (written and spoken), with proficiency equivalent to ILR Level 3 or higher in reading, listening, speaking, and writing
Demonstrated professional experience in translation, transcription, and/or interpretation
Strong understanding of Brazilian/Portuguese culture and dialects
Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using the internet for research
U.S. Citizenship is required for work with this government client
Ability to pass a government background check
Preferred Qualifications
Prior work supporting federal agencies, tribal governments, or legal settings
Familiarity with legal, law enforcement, or administrative terminology
Certification in interpretation or translation
