Hunton seeks a tax attorney with at least 1-5 years of experience to join the growing Tax Controversy Team in our Business Tax practice group.

This opportunity offers exposure to a variety of tax‑related matters across a broad spectrum of industries. Candidates should have demonstrated interest and/or experience in federal tax controversy practice, including IRS administrative dispute resolution, IRS examinations, IRS appeals, and tax litigation. Experience or interest in renewable energy tax credits is required.

Responsibilities Manage multiple matters, communicate effectively with clients, and demonstrate leadership and initiative within a client‑centered practice. Contribute as a member of the firm’s nationally recognized Tax & ERISA team.

Qualifications Strong academic background, outstanding research, drafting and analytical skills, excellent writing, detail‑oriented, and the ability to manage multiple matters. Prior experience at the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Justice’s Tax Division, a judicial clerkship, or an LL.M. in Taxation is preferred.

Washington, DC office – in‑office work expected at least 4 days per week. District of Columbia bar membership preferred; required within one year of commencing employment.

Estimated salary range: $225,000 – $365,000. Salary offers may vary based on education, training, skill set, licensure, certifications, experience, and market data.
