Responsibilities
Represents KEMBA’s interests in litigation, transactions, collections, contracts and other business matters, ensuring proper policies and risk controls are followed.
Identifies, researches, and analyzes relevant federal, state, and local legal requirements that impact products, services, and operations.
Prepares memoranda and correspondence summarizing research for In‑House Counsel’s review and evaluates new procedures or market changes requiring legal review.
Monitors bankruptcy cases to protect the credit union’s assets and follows policies for accurate tracking and reporting.
Recommends procedures and underwriting changes to manage bankruptcy losses.
Reviews lending and deposit documentation for regulatory compliance and operational simplicity.
Drafts and reviews vendor agreements and recommends actions to maintain compliance and due diligence.
Monitors vendor contracts and manages vendor‑management reporting, including preparation of monthly reports and use of the Quantivate (NContracts) application.
Develops and maintains department activity reports, interpreting data and recommending actions to In‑House Counsel.
Responds to member inquiries, providing courteous service to staff and natural person members.
Supports Risk Management and Lending in specialized legal matters such as repossessions and foreclosures.
Develops a comprehensive understanding of credit union history, philosophy, policies, and operations.
Ensures compliance with industry regulations and KEMBA policy and procedures.
Continues professional development through training and certification.
Collaborates effectively with partners and peers, negotiates, instructs, supervises, and persuades across organizational levels.
Responds appropriately to feedback.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
1–3 years of law practice experience.
Licensed attorney eligible for corporate counsel in Ohio or admitted to the Ohio Bar.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, verbal and written communication, and presentation skills.
Strong problem‑resolution and analytical skills, able to interact well with all organizational levels.
Prior litigation, financial services, contracts, collection, and bankruptcy experience strongly preferred.
Previous leadership or mentorship/management experience preferred.
Desired Qualifications
Admission to the Southern District of Ohio.
Notary public certification.
Knowledge of trust documents, powers of attorney, probate court processes, and filings.
Experience with e‑filing in state and federal courts.
Physical Demands The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with arms, and communicate verbally. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds are required. Vision requirements include close, distance, and focus adjustments.
