Job Description Summary The Chief P&C Data & Insights Officer unlocks the value of governed data across P&C to drive growth, operational efficiency, and support performance measurement of our broader P&C outcomes. Positioned within the P&C Business Performance Office, this role ensures data and insights are embedded in decision‑making and business execution.

Key Responsibilities

P&C Data Portfolio Ownership

Establish and lead a comprehensive P&C data and insight strategy aligned to business priorities.

Partner with BU Presidents and value‑chain leaders to identify data‑driven performance opportunities.

Own the full lifecycle of data initiatives, ensuring measurable outcomes and coordinated efforts across BUs.

Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration to embed data initiatives into operations.

Data Prioritization and Value Realization

Lead structured efforts to prioritize data and insight use cases that support key KPIs and drive P&C value.

Apply classification frameworks (e.g., Critical, Priority, Non‑Priority Data Elements) with value‑based criteria.

Use stakeholder feedback to refine a multi‑year P&C data roadmap and ensure value is realized.

Advise on third‑party data sources and usage, assessing availability and fit‑for‑use.

P&C Group Level Data Management & Governance

Serve as the Business Delivery Executive for Project Hercules, guiding foundational data capabilities.

Collaborate with IT on a unified, trusted data platform and enablers (metadata, lineage, glossary).

Influence strategic data governance, including policies, standards, and operating models.

Monitor and report on data health, ensuring reliability, completeness, and actionability.

Ensure data structure supports AI/ML enablement across P&C.

Convene governance forums to share progress and set priorities.

Partner with IT on ETL and data‑visualization tools, defining P&C standards for self‑service consumption.

Liaison to Technology and Risk Functions

Represent P&C in enterprise governance forums (Data Risk Council, Data Ethics Committee, etc.).

Advocate for P&C data requirements with IT to support business use cases and access needs.

Collaborate with security, compliance, and legal teams to manage privacy, risk, and emerging threats.

Data Culture and Talent Development

Promote a data‑driven culture across the P&C organization.

Mentor and grow high‑potential talent in data and insight roles.

Lead a P&C data center of excellence, establishing best practices and community of practice.

Champion data literacy and external perspectives on evolving data operating models.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships This role reports to the SVP, Business Performance P&C and leads a team of Data and Insights professionals.

Typical Skills and Experiences

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, data science, information systems, or a related field is required. Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Data/Analytics, etc.) preferred.

Licenses/Certifications/Designations:

Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, Certified Analytics Professional) are a plus.

Experience:

10–15 years of progressive leadership, substantial responsibility in data management, BI, governance, planning, or enterprise data strategy. Preferred experience in actuarial/finance/underwriting/claims data disciplines and large‑scale programs.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strategic Thinking: Align data and insights to organizational objectives.

Data Governance: Deep understanding of data quality, traceability, and governance at scale.

Stakeholder Alignment & Influence: Lead through influence across business, technology, and risk functions.

Business and Data Acumen: Knowledge of operational performance levers and insurance fundamentals.

Communication & Change Leadership: Communicate complex data concepts and drive adoption.

Analytical Problem Solving: Diagnose root causes and develop scalable data‑driven solutions.

Values: Regularly and consistently demonstrates Nationwide Values.

Other Criteria Leadership skills, competencies, and experiences may take precedence. Staffing exceptions must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.

Job Conditions

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt)

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.
