Director of Finance
The Director of Finance is responsible for leading the organization’s financial operations and ensuring long-term fiscal sustainability. This role serves as a key member of the leadership team, overseeing budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, payroll, insurance, and asset management. The position plays a critical role in strengthening financial controls, modernizing business office processes, and supporting transparent, mission-aligned growth.
Key Responsibilities
Partner with executive leadership and the Board of Directors to develop financial strategies aligned with organizational goals, providing timely analysis of budgets, forecasts, and financial performance to support decision‑making.
Lead all financial management and reporting activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP, auditing standards, and non‑profit reporting requirements.
Oversee the annual budgeting process and monitor operating, capital, and project‑based budgets, ensuring fiscal discipline, effective resource allocation, and cost‑benefit evaluation for new initiatives.
Direct all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and internal controls, while modernizing business office processes through system improvements and automation.
Supervise payroll and benefits administration in coordination with Human Resources, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational structure and market benchmarks.
Manage insurance coverage, risk management activities, and asset records, ensuring adequate protection, stewardship, and optimal utilization of organizational resources.
Oversee vendor negotiations, procurement processes, and contract compliance to secure high‑quality services at competitive rates and in alignment with internal policies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
Seven to ten years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within a non‑profit or educational environment.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate across departments.
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with a focus on operational excellence.
Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
High ethical standards, discretion, and alignment with organizational values and mission.
Knowledge of non‑profit accounting standards and Puerto Rico financial regulations.
Demonstrated ability to modernize and streamline financial and operational processes.
Leadership presence that fosters trust, accountability, and collaboration.
Base Salary: $100,000 annually
Additional Benefits
