RF Test Engineer
to join our test team in
San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo).
We provide test services in our compact range in support of national security for our DoD customers.
Role Description & Responsibilities The RF Test Engineer will have a solid foundation in electronics and RF circuit testing, tuning, and assembly. RF and microwave testing will require familiarity with RF wave propagation, antenna measurements, instrumentation radar measurements (RCS and Antenna), network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, and power meter measurements.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electronics/electrical engineering or equivalent STEM Degree and 0 years of experience
Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance within six months of hire, with the ability to obtain Special Access Program clearances
Ability to work first or second shift
Ability and willingness to troubleshoot and repair equipment as necessary
Proficient in reading, writing and interpreting written instructions in English
Strong math, science, and programming skills
Good documentation, organization and communication skills
Ability to work in a manlift up to 65 feet in the air
Ability to lift 50 lbs repetitively during the workday
Ability to stand on feet for prolonged periods
Ability to routinely and repetitively climb vertical ladder
Understands mechanical drawings and electronic schematics
Ability to work within a small team environment
Familiarity with electrical properties of materials and test techniques for same
Ability to interface with customers directly, write technical proposals and test reports
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) to document results
Preferred Qualifications
Active DoD Top Secret clearance
Understanding of calibrated antenna pattern and gain measurements with ability to analyze collected data
Understanding of Radar Cross Section (RCS) testing
Understanding of RCS data reduction and calibration with analysis using single down range 2D target exploitation, 2D intensity imaging, IER, and zero Doppler techniques
Knowledge of a broad band pulsed CW coherent, wide video bandwidth, instrumentation radar, and ability to troubleshoot and repair radar problems
Strong understanding of positioner systems used in RCS and antenna measurements
Compact and Far Field range uncertainty analysis and error source reduction
Experience in RCS Range Certification
Perform RCS measurements using high-speed, broadband pulsed-IF radar system
Experience using RCS data processing software such as Knowbell, CompuQuest, Pioneer, Saber and Matlab
Experience in test matrix development utilizing full implementation of the Nyquist criteria against target and test scene dimensions for both SAR and ISAR data collection techniques
Demonstrates initiative, self-starter, adaptable, and highly motivated for excellence
Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement with a focus on customer service
Analytical techniques of range debugging a plus
Test body development for RCS measurements a plus
Salary and Benefits Primary Level Salary Range: $69,400.00 - $104,000.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
