About This Role A Graduate Structural Engineer at HBK Engineering designs structural solutions for overhead and subsurface utility projects. The position covers the full design lifecycle, from project initiation through construction completion and closeout, and includes client communication and risk management responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

Design permanent and temporary structures such as poles, manholes, vaults, and earth retention systems.

Develop foundations, including slab‑on‑grade, shallow, deep, and helical pile foundations, as well as foundations for electric vehicle charging and solar equipment.

Design temporary and permanent utility supports and retaining walls.

Conduct onsite evaluations of transmission towers, manholes, vaults, and tunnels.

Apply structural and geotechnical engineering theories and analysis to design operations.

Prepare calculations, sketches, and AutoCAD drawings for design operations.

Assist drafters in drafting and CAD using design software and drafting equipment.

Coordinate design activities to ensure compliance with client requirements, codes, and specifications.

Prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications, and other written documentation.

Read and interpret drawings, calculations, schematics, field observations, and reports.

Conduct structural investigations, field inspections, and engineering analysis.

Perform conceptual and value engineering with emphasis on constructability issues.

Required Qualifications

B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structural or geotechnical engineering.

0–3 years’ experience in structural and/or geotechnical engineering.

Essential Skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of industry design codes including AISC, ASCE, and IBC.

Proficiency in Mathcad and/or RISA.

Fundamental knowledge of principles of structural engineering.

Ability to travel as needed.

Valued Skills and Experiences

M.S. Degree in Civil/Structural engineering (preferred).

EIT Certification.

Structural design experience.

Fundamental knowledge of temporary construction systems, geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, and groundwater hydrology.

Prior internship experience (plus).

Construction experience (plus).

Surveying experience (plus).

Compensation Range The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $66,000.00 per year – USD $72,000.00 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
