Job Description Site Directors lead dynamic summer camps for K–8 grade, serving as both site General Managers and the public face of the organization. Under the direction of a Field Program Manager, you will open and operate a Camp Galileo location, serving campers and their families within your community.
You will lead a seasonal team of educators and attentive entry‑level staff to create joyful, safe environments and ensure smooth daily operations, focusing on exceptional camper and family experiences, program quality, creativity, and customer care excellence.
Core Responsibilities
Infuse the camp with joy, tradition, and creativity; build an inclusive environment where every camper, staff member, and family feels seen, supported, and inspired.
Own every aspect of the camp’s launch from preseason planning through end‑of‑summer wrap‑up; oversee daily operations, parent communication, and operational excellence.
Prioritize camper safety and family trust; adapt quickly and problem‑solve on the fly to keep the camp running smoothly.
Train and mentor a staff of 10–40, providing clear instructional expectations, ongoing feedback, and professional development while managing staffing, scheduling, and payroll.
Use the Galileo Innovation Approach (GIA) to encourage curiosity and problem‑solving, turning challenges into opportunities.
Communicate proactively with families, facilities partners, HQ support teams, and community partners; cultivate trust and collaboration.
Location & Work Schedule This seasonal role runs February–September 2026, divided into three phases:
Phase One: Training & Prep (Feb–Jul) – up to 15 hrs/week, mostly flexible remote with required in‑person training, Bay Area retreat, virtual training, marketing events, and on‑site prep; some events may take place evenings or weekends.
Phase Two: On‑Site (Jun–Aug) – on‑site hours typical 7:00 AM–6:00 PM (Mon‑Fri), averaging 45+ hrs/week over 5–8 weeks.
Phase Three: Wrap‑Up (Aug–Sep) – up to 5 hrs total, remote, for final admin tasks and staff reviews.
Compensation
Preseason (Feb–Jun): hourly pay $23/hour for flexible, part‑time prep and training.
Camp Season (Jun–Aug): weekly salary $1,450/week as a full‑time exempt Camp Director.
Postseason (Aug–Sep): light part‑time work, paid hourly $23/hour.
Bonus/Commission: $1 per camper‑week enrollment plus potential commission for add‑on weeks.

Qualifications
3+ years of experience in education/child development (K‑8 preferred) or related coursework.
1+ year of team management and coaching or supervisory experience.
Availability for part‑time remote work starting Feb 2026 and full‑time on‑site work starting Jun 2026.
Willingness to travel regionally for up to 3 in‑person marketing events during preseason.
Flexibility to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to complete required state certifications before camp starts.
