Associate Counsel, Global Privacy and Data Protection Join Visa as a part of the Global Privacy and Data Protection legal team to help shape cybersecurity, privacy and data governance programs globally.

Job Overview As part of the Global Privacy and Data Protection legal team, you will be involved in all aspects of Visa's global cybersecurity, data protection, and data governance programs, including deployment of Privacy Enhancing Technologies. Depending on your skills, interests, and business needs, you will:

Track and analyze laws and regulations and advise the business on GDPR, CCPA, data‑protection obligations worldwide.

Help manage Visa’s privacy incident response program, revise playbooks, and review potential privacy incidents.

Collaborate with global, cross‑functional teams and senior management to provide legal advice on cybersecurity, data governance strategy and policy.

Draft, negotiate, and advise the business on cybersecurity and data governance clauses in contracts and vendor risk management.

Counsel Visa’s cyber defense team on incidents, remediation, reporting and legal risks.

Advise on compliance with Executive Order 14117 and similar data‑export regulations.

Guide improvement of Visa’s cybersecurity and privacy program with a focus on Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

Coordinate with outside counsel on data protection and cybersecurity matters.

Qualifications

2+ years of legal work experience with a Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree.

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Current member in good standing of a State Bar or registered in‑house counsel in the state where this role is located.

4+ years providing legal advice on incident response, breach reporting, cyber contracts and cybersecurity regulations.

Knowledge of NIST Cybersecurity Framework or ISO 27002.

Experience negotiating cybersecurity and data governance terms in vendor and client contracts.

Understanding of Privacy Enhancing Technologies.

Experience with global legal frameworks, especially in Latin America/Caribbean, Middle East, Africa, or Asia‑Pacific.

Professional proficiency in Spanish.

Strong analytical, negotiation, client counseling and communication skills.

Self‑motivated, entrepreneurial and collaborative team player.

Additional Information Work Hours:

Varies by department needs.

Travel Requirements:

5-10% of the time.

Compensation U.S. applicants only – the estimated salary range for this position is $152,900 to $195,000 per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary based on job‑related factors. The position may also be eligible for bonus and equity.

Hybrid Status This is a hybrid position. The expected number of days in office will be confirmed by your hiring manager.
