Oklo Inc
Core Thermal-Hydraulics Methods Engineer
Oklo Inc is seeking a Core Thermal-Hydraulics Methods Engineer to join our team in Santa Clara, CA (remote with quarterly travel). This role focuses on analyzing fluid flow and heat transfer within reactor cores using 1D and intermediate‑fidelity subchannel models.
Position Description Thermal‑Hydraulics Engineers at Oklo analyze fluid flow and heat transfer within reactors. The Core Thermal‑Hydraulics Methods Engineer will develop, qualify, and validate modeling methods for coolant flow in reactor cores, contributing to both steady‑state and transient analyses.
Responsibilities
Model core thermal‑hydraulic behavior using subchannel codes such as DASSH or MOOSE‑Subchannel; one‑dimensional system codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS‑1 or SAM; or first‑principles and in‑house flow‑network models.
Develop methods for analyzing core thermal‑hydraulic behavior at steady‑state and during transients.
Develop and utilize analysis methods that build confidence efficiently.
Automate, verify, and validate modeling and simulation tools.
Collaborate cross‑functionally to define design requirements and provide technical feedback to fast‑iterating design teams.
Document work using modern tools and techniques and produce well‑written technical reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in nuclear, mechanical, or aerospace engineering.
Proficiency with thermal‑hydraulics analysis methods.
Core competencies in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics fundamentals.
Experience with low‑fidelity and intermediate‑fidelity models for heat transfer and fluid flow.
Experience with numerical methods and software development for heat transfer and fluid flow problems.
Experience with data processing (pre‑processing, post‑processing, scripting).
Bonus Qualifications
Fluency with Python.
Experience with CI/CD computing environments.
Experience with reactor system codes such as SAS4A/SASSYS‑1, SAM, RELAP, TRACE, or GOTHIC.
Experience with qualification and validation of analyses.
Experience with subchannel analysis codes such as DASSH, MOOSE‑Subchannel, COBRA‑TF, or similar.
Experience with high‑fidelity CFD analysis.
Competencies
