Job Summary
A Senior Electrical Engineer is needed for a leading EPC organization. This critical role focuses on providing electrical engineering expertise for power generation facilities, with an emphasis on fossil fuel projects. This role will take the lead in the design, analysis, and execution of complex electrical systems for power generation, distribution, and associated infrastructure. The ideal candidate has a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 7+ years of relevant experience, along with a Professional Engineer (PE) registration. Candidates must have a background with fossil fuel power generation projects. Proficiency with electrical modeling software such as ETAP or SKM is essential for this role. This is a contract hybrid role, and candidates can work in any of our clients' national offices including Austin, Phoenix, Denver, Minneapolis, or Chicago. Location: Chicago, Illinois. Job type: Contract. Salary: $75 - 95 per hour. Work hours: 8am to 4pm. Education: Bachelors.
Responsibilities
Lead the detailed electrical design and layout of power distribution systems, power plant facilities (e.g., coal, natural gas, combined cycle), and potential microgrids integrated with plant operations
Perform advanced computer modeling and analysis of complex power systems specific to fossil fuel plants, including short-circuit, load flow, arc flash, protective relaying, lighting, and grounding studies, utilizing industry-standard software such as ETAP or SKM
Develop comprehensive detailed equipment specifications for major electrical components within a power plant (e.g., transformers, switchgear, generators, motor control centers), alongside the preparation of schematic diagrams, control wiring diagrams, and single-line diagrams
Manage the electrical design budget and schedule, coordinating technical efforts across multidisciplinary teams (e.g., mechanical, civil, process) to ensure seamless integration and adherence to the project timeline for power plant projects
Review and perform rigorous engineering calculations for system sizing and protection, ensuring strict adherence to industry standards, relevant electrical codes (NEC, NESC), and design integrity specific to high-voltage and high-current power generation applications
Coordinate extensively with vendors for the technical selection, sizing, and precise specification of specialized electrical equipment used in fossil fuel power generation facilities
