Summary Ensures operational excellence in the warehouse by providing leadership to the warehouse supervisors and employees, driving process improvements, coordinating the allocation of resources, controlling expenses. Manages all warehousing, shipping and receiving activities and ensures that all phases of facility shipping, storage, and receiving operations are completed in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Manages receiving, shipping, warehousing, distribution, through the implementation of standards of work and repeatable processes. Manages personnel through shift supervisors ensuring that performance objectives related to productivity, quality, service and safety are achieved.
Establishes and monitors performance standards for all warehouse functions, including but not limited to the receiving of components, picking orders for production, shipping of finished goods, etc.
Manages personnel, warehouse layout and equipment planning process to ensure maximum space utilization and efficiencies.
Controls inventory levels by conducting cycle counts and reconciling through use of SAP. Ensures investigation and correction of all inventory variances, including root cause analysis.
Ensures that Supervisors are completing warehouse operational requirements through appropriate scheduling, scheduling of employees and following up on work results.
Works with Human Resources and Warehouse Supervisors on the hiring of new staff by conducting interviews and making hiring decisions or recommendations.
Provides training and coaching for employees in work-related activities, personal growth, performance and career development.
Resolves personnel issues and problems with supervisors along with help from Human Resources when necessary.
Approves personnel actions recommended by Warehouse Supervisors, such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures.
Ensures the health, safety, cleanliness and security of the work environment and oversees the planned maintenance of warehouse vehicles, machinery and equipment.
Motivates, organizes, & encourages teamwork within the warehouse to ensure set productivity targets are met.
Develops and manages material storage processes that ensure materials are stored safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Conducts staff meetings to review and address specific warehouse and company topics with an emphasis on driving continuous improvement efforts.
Coordinates and monitors the return of damaged goods and documents all transactions.
Ensures that location validity is maintained for all stock keeping units throughout the warehouse.
Ensures that proper licenses (forklift, dangerous goods, etc.) are in place for the staff.
Interfaces with staff and management to resolve discrepancies, answer questions and provide guidance and training on inventory control/warehouse systems.
Participates in the recommendation of business unit inventory control and warehouse policy discussions.
Develops new processes, methods of storage, or recording and coordinates changes with relevant personnel.
Ensures the warehouse operation maintains compliance in accordance to all applicable company and other governing policies and procedures.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required. Associate/Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in Management or Supply Chain preferred.
Substantial and progressively responsible experience as a supervisor or manager leading people and managing process in a logistics, warehouse and/or distribution environment.
Possesses advanced knowledge of material service, warehousing and transportation functions.
Demonstrated knowledge of commonly used warehouse and inventory control processes.
Proven skills organizing and prioritizing tasks to ensure timely completion.
Highly effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal effectiveness skills and demonstrated flexibility in working with all levels of management and employees.
Proven ability to continuously improve operational costs and profitability.
Understands and has successfully implemented strategic plans. Proven ability to effectively communicate both written and orally.
Ability to manage competing priorities. Can manage one's own time efficiently as the time of others.
