Role Overview As the Seafood Department Manager, you are a key player in overseeing and managing all aspects of the fish department, including department profitability, displays, inventory control, and leading the team to drive business and sales. You ensure every guest receives an exceptional shopping experience, leveraging your seafood knowledge and hospitality skills.
Responsibilities & Duties
Model and deliver exceptional guest service and ensure guest needs are met in a timely fashion.
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the seafood department.
Receive merchandise, break down pallets, manage vendor invoices and picklists, ensure product meets or exceeds Citarella standards.
Manage department profitability, merchandising, guest service, appearance, and team member supervision.
Write schedules, approve PTO, maintain timecards and manage labor.
Supervise team members ensuring service standards are always met.
Prepare, package, weigh, and price seafood department products for sale.
Trim and bone fish, crack shellfish upon request.
Maintain inventory levels.
Collaborate with buyer to ensure proper product assortment, merchandising, ordering and inventory control.
Monitor quality, freshness and safeguard proper product rotation, adhering to DOH, DOA and OSHA standards.
Ensure department is cleaned and maintained throughout all shifts.
Maintain accurate signage and pricing.
Direct and support team members on opening and closing procedures.
Assist store leadership to select, train, develop and mentor new and existing team members.
Motivate and provide feedback to cultivate and retain team members.
Write semi‑annual/annual performance reviews for associates.
Adhere to all assigned duties by management team.
Minimum of 2‑3 years’ experience managing a seafood department in a grocery store environment.
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical ability to stand, kneel, stoop, use stairs, lift and push/pull items of 20‑75 pounds.
Vast knowledge of handling perishable items and product rotation.
Food safety and sanitation knowledge.
Initiative, self‑motivation and limited supervision.
Capability to hire, train, inspire and develop a team.
Team building and brand ambassadorship.
Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.
Analytical thinking and proficiency in math.
Proficient computer knowledge: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel.
