Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide essential administrative support within a busy medical office, ensuring smooth operations and excellent patient service. This role involves managing medical records, scheduling, billing, and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and strong communication skills are essential to succeed in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient scheduling, appointment confirmations, and follow-ups using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks.
  • Handle medical billing and coding tasks including CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding to ensure accurate documentation and insurance claims processing.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers.
  • Review and update patient medical records while maintaining strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with front desk duties such as greeting patients, answering multi-line phone systems, managing patient check-in/out processes, and providing excellent patient service.
  • Perform data entry tasks including typing reports, filing documents, and managing health information management systems.
  • Support clinic operations by coordinating care plans, documentation review, and ensuring compliance with healthcare policies.
  • Maintain office supplies inventory and perform administrative support tasks such as faxing, photocopying, and filing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in office management software like Microsoft Office Suite to prepare reports and correspondence.

Experience

  • Prior experience working in a medical office or clinic setting is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical billing procedures is essential.
  • Experience with insurance verification processes including Medicare is advantageous.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus to effectively communicate with diverse patient populations.
  • Strong clerical skills including filing, multi-line phone handling, typing, and computer literacy are necessary for success in this role.
  • Excellent customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette are critical for providing a positive patient experience. Pay: From $19.00 per hour
