Reporting to the Chief of Cardiology for clinical issues and for administrative issues.
Compensation Pay Range:
$107,000.00 - $224,123.00
Responsibilities
Facilitate the assessment and work up of cardiology patients in any environment including outpatient office, ED, and inpatient floors.
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will obtain and coordinate history and physical, laboratory results, chart clinical findings, admission orders, nursing instructions, clinical documentation required by various registries and other required elements.
In collaboration with the Hospitalist Service, will coordinate admissions and transfers to the hospital, ensuring informed consent for procedures is obtained at the appropriate time.
Perform pre-procedure assessments in the Recovery room/holding area, Emergency Department, Inpatient Floors, or outpatient setting as needed.
Medical treatment and post-procedure care under the supervision of the attending physician.
Fluid and electrolyte management, nutrition, pain management, transfusion therapy, anticoagulation management and patient education.
Assist in the evaluation and management of clinical events such as fever, altered hemodynamics, CHF, pulmonary complications, abrupt vessel closure, arrhythmias, access site complications and others.
Education and professional development.
Attend internal and external education meetings and read appropriate professional journals to maintain and enhance skills and clinical competence.
Complete 100 hours of continuing medical education necessary during each 2-year period of employment.
Analyze causes of problems, identify and evaluate alternative solutions, select appropriate solution, and communicate effectively utilizing chain of command.
Assume an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
Safety/Quality – Foster a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
Verify patient identification with two identifiers prior to the start of a visit including administration of care, medications, labeled specimens and documents confirming the correct patient, procedure, site, equipment, and consent.
Comply with CDC hand hygiene guidelines and adhere to universal precautions, using personal protective equipment appropriately and disposing of hazardous materials properly.
Maintain awareness of MSDS sheets and how to access.
Understand and demonstrate individual roles and responsibilities in hospital codes and emergency preparedness.
Participate in quality indicators and standards on the unit and hospital wide (hand hygiene, Press Ganey, nursing indicators).
Adhere to guidelines for disposal of waste (biohazardous, pharmaceutical and PHI).
Maintain a knowledge of culturally competent care to improve health outcomes for diverse patient populations.
Rounds on patients on the floor or in the unit as needed.
Technology and Learning – Participate in continued learning and possess a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures that continue to develop in the role and throughout the organization.
Schedule Tuesday - Friday 10 hours/day
Qualifications
ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA) including courses offered through SSH.
Certified Nurse Practitioner – Board of Registration in Nursing (Massachusetts).
