Job Summary The Medical Director, Rare Disease shapes strategic processes and plans for assets across all phases of the Rare Disease portfolio, ensuring scientific consistency and alignment among R&D, Clinical, and Global Medical Affairs functions.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Strategy & Narrative

Develop target reimbursable product profiles and early asset plans.

Review asset plans to align with the overarching medical narrative.

Build partnerships with stakeholders through clear communication and shared priorities.

Provide guidance on disease state and mechanisms of action for portfolio assets.

Lead tactical planning and identify critical data needs.

Evidence Generation Process

Partner with GIE&I to translate data gaps into research priorities.

Design innovative trials and plan medical affairs evidence activities.

External Stakeholder Engagement

Engage KOLs and patient advocacy leaders to collect and share clinical insights.

Create key intelligence topics and lead advisory board facilitation.

Drive scientific discussions to validate development hypotheses.

Support scientific publications and presentations.

Cross‑Functional Integration & Planning

Collaborate with Rare Disease business unit sub‑teams.

Serve as a scientific resource for Clinical, Marketing, and Market Access teams.

Prioritize indications and plan portfolios for early assets.

Manage medical program budgets and ensure regulatory compliance.

Leverage technology and AI to streamline workflows.

Qualifications

Advanced degree (PharmD, MD, PhD, or equivalent) with deep expertise in Rare Disease.

5+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience, preferably in Clinical Development, Research, or Medical Affairs.

Experience evaluating business development opportunities for potential acquisitions.

Experience leading evidence generation and advisory board execution.

Compensation Base salary range: $205,368.00 – $307,050.00 (US). Incentive opportunity may adjust actual pay within this range based on experience and skills.
