Valon
About The Company
Valon is building the AI-native operating system for regulated finance, starting with mortgage servicing. We are a Series C company backed by a16z, transforming industries that others have written off as too complex to innovate.
Instead of building on top of broken legacy systems, we built and operate our own mortgage servicing business managing $110+ billion in loans. This was how we deeply understood the complexity needed to build software that actually works in regulated industries.
Our results speak for themselves: we transformed mortgage servicing from a 0% margin business into 60%+ margins while dramatically improving customer experience. Major enterprise contracts are now deploying across the industry.
ValonOS is our unified platform that makes every process structured and programmable and it is perfectly positioned for the AI era. When everything flows through one system with rich data, AI agents don’t just automate tasks, they continuously improve entire operations. Mortgage servicing is just the beginning of our vision to transform regulated industries and beyond.
About The Role
You will lead Valon’s compliance function and serve as a key partner to product, engineering, legal, and leadership as we scale the AI-native operating system for regulated finance. This is not a traditional compliance role at a financial institution—you’ll be building the compliance infrastructure for a technology platform that enables mortgage servicers to meet their regulatory obligations.
This high‑ownership leadership role shapes how ValonOS addresses the regulatory requirements facing our enterprise clients, translates complex mortgage servicing regulations into product requirements, and builds scalable compliance programs that support both Valon’s servicing operations and our growing software business. You operate at the intersection of technology and regulation in one of the most complex industries in the world.
Work span: regulatory analysis, product compliance guidance, client‑facing compliance support, cross‑functional strategy. Balance deep regulatory expertise with practical product thinking—understand not just what the rules require, but how to create processes and systems that make compliance efficient and reliable for the business.
Responsibilities
Translate CFPB, GSE, and other mortgage servicing regulations into product and operational requirements that shape how ValonOS is built and deployed.
Serve as a trusted resource on regulatory matters affecting Valon’s platform, including Reg X, Reg Z, FCRA, GLBA, UDAAP, and fair‑lending requirements.
Monitor evolving federal and state law to ensure Valon remains ahead of a rapidly shifting regulatory landscape.
Partner with product and engineering teams to embed compliance into platform design, ensuring ValonOS enables clients to meet their regulatory obligations.
Program Development
Build and scale compliance policies, procedures, and controls to integrate with our rapid product development process.
Establish frameworks for assessing and managing compliance risk in new product features and business initiatives.
Oversee Valon’s change management process to identify changes in laws, rules, and regulations, collaborate with our R&D teams to create plans to address those changes, and communicate those plans to our clients for feedback.
Client and Enterprise Support
Support enterprise client relationships by serving as a compliance subject matter expert during sales cycles, implementations, and ongoing operations.
Respond to client due diligence requests and compliance inquiries with credibility and precision.
Help clients understand how ValonOS supports their compliance programs and regulatory examination readiness.
Leadership
Work directly with senior leadership on compliance strategy, regulatory developments, and initiatives that influence Valon’s trajectory.
Drive cross‑functional compliance projects as business needs evolve in a fast‑growing environment.
Build and develop the compliance team as the function scales.
Requirements
10+ years of experience in compliance, risk management, or regulatory roles within financial services, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
Deep expertise in mortgage servicing regulations, including CFPB rules (Reg X, Reg Z), FCRA, GLBA, UDAAP, and GSE servicer requirements.
Experience building or significantly scaling compliance programs at a regulated financial institution or fintech.
Track record of partnering with product and technology teams to implement compliance requirements.
Skills
Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable product and operational guidance.
Exceptional written and verbal communication with internal stakeholders, clients, and regulators.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in precision‑critical contexts.
Comfort with technology concepts and ability to engage credibly with engineering and product teams.
Mindset
Thrives in high‑ownership environments with minimal bureaucracy.
Comfortable balancing urgency with uncompromising precision in regulated domains.
Energized by ambiguity, complexity, and solving hard problems with smart people.
Views compliance as a product‑enablement function, not a back‑office gatekeeper.
Enjoys fast pace, honest feedback, and a culture that rewards initiative and impact.
Benefits
Competitive salary with meaningful equity stake and a 401k plan.
Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits to support physical and mental well‑being.
Pre‑tax deductions for public transportation, rideshare services, and parking expenses.
Company‑wide onboarding, learning & development opportunities, and regular review cycles featuring 360‑degree feedback.
Quarterly budgets for team and company outings.
Flexible paid time off, sick days, and 11 company holidays.
12 weeks paid parental leave for both birthing and non‑birthing parents.
