Job Title: PhlebotomistJob Description
The primary role of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of specimen collection and processing.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
- Record maintenance data and decontaminate work areas.
- Update patient information accurately.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Understand and follow all physician orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
- Ensure all test requisitions or computer labels match the script 100%.
- Package specimens for transport, ensuring proper temperature and labeling.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual departmental trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.
Essential Skills
- Proven proficiency in phlebotomy and patient care, particularly blood draws.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.
- Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience.
Work Environment
The work environment includes a fast-paced lab or hospital setting where phlebotomists must adhere to established procedures and protocols. Proper personal protective equipment must be worn at all times, and phlebotomists will work with various tools and technologies, including centrifuges and computers for data entry.

This is a Contract position based out of Gastonia, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.50/hr.
