Director-Communications-CAS
General Responsibilities
To create and execute a strategy of integrating and enhancing internal and external communications for the UAB College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). To oversee various communication efforts such as media relations, web communications, social media communications, etc.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Creates and executes strategies for media and public relations, web communications, etc. to enhance internal and external communications for CAS.
Assists with crisis communications and issues management for CAS.
Serves as communications lead for CAS. Facilitates internal crisis communications and issues management for CAS with UAB Office of University Relations. Meets consistently and proactively with and maintains relationships with department chairs, administrators, center and institute directors in order to bring issues to the attention of the Dean and Dean's Leadership Team and provides communications solutions.
Increases news placements in traditional and new media, locally and nationally, to increase positive exposure to target audiences and improve national reputation scores.
Works with the development team to promote and support philanthropic initiatives through effective communications with key constituents.
Manages CAS website in consultation with digital media to ensure brand and message consistency, up to date content and engaging visuals. Manages content development team for CAS-wide internal and external communication tools including but not limited to newsletter, website, social media and the CAS magazine. Produces content that can be shared across multiple platforms.
Manages all aspects of social media initiatives for CAS.
Promotes a working environment that supports and promotes the CAS priorities and goals, fosters teamwork and maximizes employee satisfaction and productivity.
Works with other areas of marketing to ensure synthesized, strategic messaging.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Salary Pay Range
$73,945 - $120,165
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field and seven (7) years of related experience required.
Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Preferences Experience in public relations - higher education is preferred.
