The Director of Software Development is a senior engineering manager responsible for overseeing the design, development, and delivery of high‑quality software solutions that align with organizational goals. The role leads multiple development teams, drives technical excellence, fosters innovation, and ensures scalable processes to support growth.

Essential Functions
Provide strategic direction and leadership for software development teams, ensuring alignment with company vision, goals and product roadmap.
Lead, mentor and develop engineering managers and senior technical staff to build high‑performing, collaborative, and engaged teams.
Oversee the planning, execution and delivery of software projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, quality and budget requirements.
Establish and enforce engineering best practices, including coding standards, architecture design, testing and CI/CD.
Drive innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and methodologies to improve development efficiency and product capabilities.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product Management, QA, DevOps and other business units to ensure successful product releases and customer satisfaction.
Develop and manage budgets, software tools and system architectures for the business unit product lines.
Manage resource planning, hiring and career development within the development organization.
Monitor and improve software development processes, tools and metrics to drive continuous improvement.
Ensure compliance with security, regulatory and data protection standards in software design and delivery.
Perform other duties as required and maintain reliable full‑time attendance.

Qualifications and Competencies
Proven track record of leading large‑scale, complex software projects from conception to delivery.
Deep understanding of modern software development practices, AI, cloud architectures and agile methodologies.
Strong technical background.
Exceptional leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to balance strategic thinking with technical engagement when needed.
Directs and provides expert knowledge in the strategic function of the department.
Develops short and long‑term people and organizational strategy in alignment with AEVEX goals and direction.
Leads with impact & influence, establishing credibility, effectively persuades and develops others to achieve objectives collaboratively.
Identifies, recruits and retains top‑notch talent.

Education / Certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience
10+ years of progressive software development experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing managers and technical teams.
Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships and distributed/remote teams is a plus.

Active Top Secret DoD Clearance, U.S. Citizenship preferred.
