Reuters is seeking a talented and driven photojournalist to join our Washington, D.C. bureau. This role is central to our coverage of the White House, Capitol Hill, U.S. politics, and government affairs, with additional responsibilities that may include entertainment, sports, and national/international news.
The successful candidate will deliver high-impact, visually compelling news photography from Washington, D.C., working in close coordination with Reuters photo editors, staff photographers, and the Global Pictures Desk. Their work will contribute to the highly competitive Reuters Pictures file for both U.S. and international clients. This role demands a collaborative mindset and a commitment to editorial excellence, as the photographer will be part of a tight-knit wire service team dedicated to producing a world‑class visual report.
About the Role In this opportunity as Senior Photographer, you will:
Cover major political events, including daily developments at the White House, Capitol Hill, and national campaigns.
Produce timely, visually engaging still photography and video content under tight deadlines.
Collaborate with Reuters photo editors, staff photographers, and the Global Pictures Desk to deliver competitive, high‑quality news imagery for U.S. and international clients.
Create picture packages and visual narratives that capture defining moments and broader themes in U.S. politics.
Contribute to coverage of entertainment, sports, and breaking national and international news as needed.
Embrace teamwork and cross‑departmental collaboration in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven newsroom environment.
About You
At least three years of full‑time photojournalism experience, ideally in Washington, D.C.
A deep understanding of U.S. politics and the nuances of covering the White House, Congress, and political campaigns.
Proven video production skills and experience contributing to cross‑format news coverage.
Familiarity with wire service workflows and the needs of both domestic and international clients.
A collaborative mindset and appreciation for the role of every team member in producing a world‑class report.
Strong visual storytelling ability, with expertise in capturing compelling news moments within broader narratives.
A distinctive photographic style that adapts to fast‑evolving news environments.
Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Passion for staying current with the latest photographic tools, techniques, and communication technologies.
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English, with the ability to write clear, accurate, and error‑free captions in Reuters style.
Proficiency in industry‑standard photo editing software.
A drone license is a plus.
Experience in sports photography is an asset.

Location and Compensation Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $72,000 - $130,000.
