Civil Service Title – Associate Project Manager II
IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST.
Overview The selected candidate will be responsible for assigning and coordinating the activities of in-house crews, making flag and corrective repairs to the city’s elevated infrastructure; reviewing engineering plans in preparation for repair jobs; preparing work tickets and lane closure applications and drafting U.S. Coast Guard notices of upcoming work; coordinating with skilled trades in the field to solve logistical problems and ensure safety standards are maintained; monitoring daily progress of projects and confirming the use of materials per industry standards; preparing reports on projects including material and personnel costs; responding to emergencies and supervising work being performed during evenings, nights, and weekends; performing other related duties.
Preferred Skills Ability to perform inspections in all weather conditions which will include nights and weekends. A strong background in AutoCAD and MS Office suite is required. Ability to drive city‑owned vehicle. Preference will be given to those with a Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York which may be required for certain assignments. This license must be maintained for the duration of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications One year of full‑time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work, such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting, on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more, and either:
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the listed disciplines and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in project management work.
A four‑year high school diploma or its equivalent and five years of experience as described in (1).
A four‑year high school diploma or its equivalent plus any combination of college or university education and/or experience described in (1) to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. One year of experience credit will be given for: (a) each 30 semester credits of college or university education leading to a bachelor's degree in the disciplines listed; (b) a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the disciplines; (c) a Juris Doctor degree; (d) a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect or Registered Landscape Architect. Where experience which is primarily of a design nature is not acceptable towards meeting the qualification requirements.
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements for Assignment Level I, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project.
