Job Summary Media Engineering builds the software and systems that prepare media content and metadata for the Disney Streaming platform. The Senior Software Engineer will deliver excellent streaming experiences for Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN, leading the design and implementation of a cross‑platform JavaScript / HTML5 player that targets gaming consoles, smart TVs, mobile devices and set‑top boxes.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain the streaming player and drive streaming experience
Optimize player performance for resource‑constrained platforms
Create and review architecture and design for team projects
Maintain strong code understanding to identify, research and resolve issues
Collaborate with application, services engineering and product management to explain device limitations and requirements
Lead strategies to ensure quality and stability of deployments, including tooling, testing, and telemetry
Develop project build system and continuous integration system as needed
Provide technical expertise or mentoring to team developers
Hold team accountable to high development standards
Basic Qualifications
5+ years of full software development lifecycle experience
Fluent in JavaScript
Willing to learn Rust and C++
Experience in streaming technologies (HLS preferred or DASH, DRM technologies PlayReady or Widevine, ABR algorithms, subtitle formats CEA‑608/708, codecs AVC/HEVC/AAC/EAC3)
Experience developing and optimizing multi‑threaded applications
Experience using build runners/compilation tools for multi‑platform projects
Strong individual contributor with drive to learn and teach others
Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
Preferred Qualifications
JavaScript expertise in browsers, embedded systems, and Node.js
Cross‑platform development experience
Embedded operating system experience
Experience developing for gaming consoles, Android devices (e.g., FireTV), or similar devices
Familiarity with set‑top box development and SoCs from Broadcom, MediaTek, etc.
Compensation Salary range for New York, NY and Seattle, WA is $148,700.00 – $199,400.00 per year. Additional bonus and long‑term incentive opportunities may be provided.
