Product Manager - Technical, Production & Post Technology
Amazon, Denver, Colorado, United States, 80285
Amazon MGM Studios is seeking an experienced Product Manager - Technical (PMT III) to drive the product vision and strategy for our Studio in the Cloud (SITC) initiative. SITC is transforming how entertainment content is created by moving all major production and post‑production workflows from traditional on‑premises infrastructure to AWS cloud‑based solutions. This initiative encompasses nine core workflows—Dailies, Editorial, VFX, Sound, Conform, Color, Mastering, QC/Delivery, and Remote Production—representing the complete content creation lifecycle from Original Camera Footage (OCF) ingestion through final delivery.
In this role, you will own the product lifecycle for workflows that enable creative professionals, production companies, and post‑production vendors to collaborate globally using industry‑standard tools integrated on AWS. You will work with leading creative tool providers including Avid, Adobe, Colorfront, and Blackmagic, as well as major post‑production vendors such as Company 3, Fotokem, Picture Shop, and others who service the majority of high‑value productions. Your work will reduce hardware dependencies, eliminate physical media transport, enable real‑time global collaboration, and accelerate production timelines while maintaining the creative quality and flexibility that content creators demand.
As a PMT III, you will operate independently with limited guidance, managing high ambiguity as you define product strategy, feature design, and technology approaches for a highly relationship‑driven industry. You will navigate the complex dynamics between creative trust, vendor partnerships, technical innovation, and business transformation. Your work will influence engineering organization priorities and the strategic direction of cloud‑based production across Amazon MGM Studios' International Originals and Global Originals slates, spanning over 150 productions annually across multiple regions.
This role requires a unique blend of technical depth in distributed systems and media workflows, product management expertise, deep understanding of creative production processes, and exceptional stakeholder management. You will work backwards from the needs of directors, editors, colorists, VFX artists, and production teams to define solutions that enhance rather than disrupt their creative process. Success requires building consensus across diverse stakeholder groups including creative teams, engineering organizations, vendors, compliance teams, legal, business affairs, and executive leadership.
Key job responsibilities
Own product roadmap and feature priorities for SITC's nine core workflows (Dailies, Editorial, VFX, Sound, Conform, Color, Mastering, QC/Delivery, Remote Production), defining customer experience, vision, tenets, and product strategy across production and post‑production domains
Develop differentiated adoption strategies for International Originals (flexible vendor ecosystems) versus US Global Originals (entrenched creative partnerships), prioritizing deployment based on technical readiness, creative acceptance, and business value
Understand SITC systems including OCF ingestion pipelines, media asset management, rendering infrastructure, and real‑time collaboration—their limitations, scaling factors, and architectural decisions. Define technical requirements for latency‑sensitive creative workflows requiring near‑instantaneous response (4:4:4 10‑bit color processing, high‑resolution playback)
Address high‑bandwidth, low‑latency challenges across regions with varying network infrastructure, determining when to use Project Kuiper satellite bandwidth, regional ingest hubs, or hybrid approaches. Ensure solutions scale to 100+ concurrent productions
Build strategic relationships with top‑tier post‑production vendors (Company 3, Picture Shop, Fotokem, Pivotal, Harbor, Goldcrest) and creative tool providers (Avid, Adobe, Autodesk, Blackmagic, Colorfront). Partner with Business Development, Legal, and Business Affairs to develop vendor onboarding processes, rate card structures, and technical validation frameworks
Drive product discussions with senior creative leadership, distilling clear requirements from diverse stakeholders including directors, editors, production companies, post‑production supervisors, and Studios finance. Build consensus across competing priorities and communicate with executives across Studios, Studios Tech, Finance, Legal, and Business Affairs
Contribute to OP1/OP2 narratives and influence engineering organization roadmaps. Write PR/FAQs and perform market research with directors, editors, and post‑production supervisors to validate solutions
Develop product plans with clear success criteria including workflow adoption rates by region, production satisfaction (NPS), platform reliability (uptime, MTTR), and workflow cycle time reductions. Define showstoppers related to creative quality and ensure urgent bug triage
Actively recruit, mentor, and develop others in technical product management, media production workflows, and stakeholder management. Participate in hiring loops and perform PMT assessments
