Software Engineer 2 . Join our growing team and support an important mission within the Federal Government.

Location: Annapolis Junction

Clearance Required: TS/SCI with Polygraph

Overview The developers will focus on developing graphical user interfaces and dashboards, deploying and managing applications in an AWS cloud environment, integrating new functionality with established tools through tech transfer initiatives, automating key workflows, and integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models into our workflows. The ideal candidate will be a versatile problem‑solver with a strong foundation in software development principles and a passion for building innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain user‑friendly GUIs and interactive dashboards. Design, deploy, and manage applications and infrastructure in AWS. Integrate new features and functionalities into existing tools.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle. Write clean, well‑documented, and testable code.

Design, implement, and maintain automated workflows to streamline processes.

Integrate AI/ML models into existing systems to enhance functionality and improve decision‑making. Monitor and optimize automated workflows and AI/ML model performance.

Technical Skills

Languages: Python, JavaScript, TypeScript

GUI/Dashboard: Expert‑level proficiency in at least one modern JavaScript framework. Experience with advanced UI patterns and data visualization libraries (D3.js, etc.).

AWS: Deep understanding of AWS services and architectures. Experience designing and implementing scalable, resilient, and secure cloud solutions. Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK).

Automation/AI: Expert‑level Python scripting for automation. Deep experience with workflow orchestration tools. Proven ability to integrate and deploy AI/ML models into production systems. Understanding of AI/ML model training, inference, and monitoring.

DevOps: Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes or ECS/EKS), and cloud monitoring tools.

Tech Transfer: Experience integrating with existing software systems, reverse engineering APIs (when necessary and legally permissible), and creating clear documentation.

Leadership: Strong leadership skills, ability to mentor junior engineers, and a proven track record of delivering high‑quality software solutions.

Additional Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based upon documented requirements.

Work individually or as part of a team.

Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and document test results.

Resolve software problem reports.

Utilize software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.

Provide specific input to the system design including hardware/software trade offs, COTS/GOTS usage, and requirements analysis.

Level 2 Software Engineer Capabilities

Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements.

Debug existing software and correct defects.

Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.

Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features.

Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments.

Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories.

Write or review software and system documentation.

Serve as a team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used.

Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries.

Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards.

Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components.

Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, consulting users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigate problem areas.

Modify existing software to correct errors, adapt to new hardware, or improve its performance.

Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.

Design or implement complex algorithms requiring adherence to strict timing, system resource, or interface constraints; perform quality control on team products.

Implement recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards.

Oversee one or more software development teams and ensure the work is completed in accordance with the constraints of the software development process being used on any particular project.

Confer with system engineers and hardware engineers to derive software requirements and obtain information on project limitations and capabilities, performance requirements and interfaces.

Coordinate software system installation and monitor equipment functioning to ensure operational specifications are met.

Requirements

A current and active TS/SCI clearance with an MD polygraph is required.

Fourteen (14) years experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.

A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.

Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
