Electronic Systems Product Engineer
to join our team specializing in

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Translate Product Needs into Technical Solutions
You'll bridge the gap between customer/product requirements and technical implementation by converting them into hardware and software specifications that drive product functionality.
Drive System Integration and Validation
By configuring and tuning integrated systems, you'll ensure that hardware and software work seamlessly together, delivering reliable performance across diverse customer applications.
Solve Real-World Engineering Challenges
You'll investigate system issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions—playing a key role in maintaining product quality and customer satisfaction.
Support Continuous Improvement
Your involvement in refining development processes and tools (like simulation, calibration, and DVP&R) will help enhance efficiency and product robustness.
Collaborate Across Functions
Working with cross-functional teams—including manufacturing, suppliers, and technical experts—you’ll contribute to well-informed decisions that shape product outcomes.
Make Design and Calibration Decisions
You'll have ownership over decisions that affect the performance and quality of specific features or components, building your technical judgment and impact.
Coordinate Technical Workflows
While not managing people directly, you may guide technicians or interns, helping align their work with project goals and timelines.
Grow as a Technical Contributor
Through hands-on experience and collaboration, you'll steadily build expertise in key competency areas, becoming a valuable contributor to your team and Cummins’ innovation efforts.
RESPONSIBILITIES To be successful in this role, you will need the following:
Strong Technical Foundation in Mechatronics and Controls
You’ll need to understand and apply principles of mechatronics systems, including hardware/software integration and open/closed loop controls, to design and optimize Cummins products.
Systems Thinking and Requirements Engineering
Success depends on your ability to define system boundaries, translate stakeholder needs into clear, verifiable requirements, and manage those requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
Analytical and Simulation Skills
You’ll use modeling, simulation, and statistical methods to predict product behavior, validate performance, and make data-driven decisions that improve reliability and functionality.
Problem Solving and Failure Mode Avoidance
You’ll need to proactively identify potential failure modes, troubleshoot issues using structured techniques, and implement robust solutions that protect the customer and enhance product quality.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication
Working effectively across teams and communicating clearly with diverse stakeholders is essential for integrating designs, resolving issues, and driving product development forward.
Continuous Learning and Adaptability
A mindset of self-development, openness to different perspectives, and the ability to make timely, informed decisions will help you grow and thrive in this dynamic, early-career role.
Education, Licenses, Certifications: College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience: Entry level/Early career professional. Preferred candidates would have relevant experience working in either a temporary student employment environment (intern, co-op, or other extracurricular team activities) or as an early career professional in a relevant technical discipline area. Knowledge of MS Office tools is also preferred.

Pay Range:
$74,800 - $112,200
Role Expectations:
This position is listed as a hybrid role and could require the selected candidate to report on-site 60% of the time each week.
Utilize ECAD tools to develop schematics, harness drawings, and printed circuit board (PCB) designs
Experience with
Zuken
and
Altium
is advantageous
Apply fundamental and advanced circuit analysis and design principles
Familiarity with tools such as
SPICE
and
MATLAB
for simulation and modeling
Design and analyze circuits ranging from simple passive configurations to more complex systems
Perform wire and connector sizing based on application requirements and engineering analysis
Select electrical components through informed analysis and performance evaluation
Conduct testing and validation using standard electrical engineering lab equipment
Includes use of
digital multimeters (DMMs)
,
oscilloscopes
,
power supplies
, and
load banks
Diagnose and resolve electrical issues using first-principles thinking and root cause analysis
Design basic test setups and support test teams in troubleshooting system-level electrical issues
Collaborate across functional teams to develop integrated and holistic electrical systems
Preferred Experience:
The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience
Experience with harness routing and understanding of industry best practices
Willingness to travel to and work at a test facility located approximately 90 minutes south of the city for installation and diagnostics support
General knowledge of prototyping techniques and practices
Familiarity with battery systems and electrification technologies
Experience working with high-voltage systems, including voltages up to
2kV
