Job Summary This opening is full-time and in-office. The role reports to the assigned supervisor and involves entry-level engineering activities and projects that apply engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic manner.

What You'll Do

Accurately model transmission system topology, including impedance and facility ratings for lines, generators, and transformers for Medium, High, and Extra High Voltages using AEP-internal modeling database and PSS-ODMS.

Fulfill system modeling requests from Engineering and Operations personnel submitted via ServiceNow ticketing system.

Collaborate with internal partners to establish ratings and configuration changes for planned system changes.

Participate in planning and organization of project work activities.

Perform activities related to NERC Compliance standards.

Apply problem‑solving skills to resolve technical problems and initiate solution techniques.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience reading and understanding transmission and generation system topology using PSS-ODMS, ASPEN One‑liner, and/or Siemens PSSE for Medium, High, and Extra High Voltages, including:

Modeling transmission lines, transformers, and circuit breakers.

Knowledge of inverter‑based generation for wind and solar applications.

Synchronous-based generation.

Experience working with NERC Compliance Standards.

Experience with process improvement, including process development, implementation, adherence, and training.

Experience comparing data from various sources, evaluating validity, and performing clean‑up activities.

Background knowledge in engineering.

Engineer Associate SG6

Entry‑level position for new graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.

Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred.

Engineer Technologist Associate SG6

Entry‑level position for new graduates with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from an ABET‑accredited program.

Engineering technology degree preferred but engineering degrees also considered.

Engineer SG7

Typically acquired a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program with two or more years of related engineering experience.

Masters in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program may be considered for entry at this level.

Engineer Technologist SG7

Typically acquired two or more years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from an ABET‑accredited program.

Engineering technology degree preferred but engineering degrees also considered.

Engineer Senior SG8

Typically acquired four or more years of related engineering experience and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.

Or two years of related engineering experience plus a Master’s or PhD from an ABET‑accredited program.

Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico is encouraged and preferred.

Engineer Technologist Senior SG8

Typically acquired four or more years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from an ABET‑accredited program.

Engineering technology degree preferred but engineering degrees also considered.

VP or above may waive the requirement for a degree from a non‑ABET accredited program.

Engineer/Engineer Technologist SG 6/7: $84,000 – $105,000

Engineer/Engineer Technologist Senior SG 8: $96,000 – $125,000

Compensation

Compensation Grade: SP20-006

Compensation Range: $72,380.00 – $124,940.00

Physical Demand Level Sedentary work with occasional exertion up to 10 pounds.
