About the Team The Anduril Imaging team develops state‑of‑the‑art imaging systems across both hardware and software, deployed to tackle the most significant security challenges of America and its allies. The team is heavily involved in utilizing computer vision, perception, electro‑optical, infrared, and sensor data to give our war fighters and allies an advantage.
About the Job We are seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team, focusing on the design and development of advanced complex electro‑mechanical and structural and electronics packing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design.
What You’ll Do
Own hardware from concept generation to real‑world use.
Develop cutting‑edge infrared sensors.
Utilize first‑principles physics as a basis for all decisions.
Build prototypes, analyze failures, and transition successful projects into production.
Support critical hardware demonstrations with customers as needed.
Contribute to the development of new optical systems by assisting in design and implementation efforts.
Execute in‑depth and rigorous opto‑mechanical and electro‑mechanical designs.
Mentor junior engineers, lead small teams, and manage projects/budgets.
Travel to test sites as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's in mechanical engineering (BSME), or MS with 8 plus years of experience in design, hardware, or integrated product development and testing, and excellent leadership/communication skills.
Experience in an immersive interdisciplinary technical project.
Proficiency in various CAD tools and openness to using new software, with the ability to create high‑quality engineering drawings that meet industry standards.
Strong skills in material selection, component sizing, system design, and troubleshooting.
Understanding of thermal and structural analysis.
Exceptional analytical, troubleshooting, and root‑cause analysis skills.
Demonstrated hands‑on fabrication skills.
Ability to integrate electronic components into mechanical designs (motors, controllers, sensors, etc.).
Experience with machining and fabrication processes, sheet metal, injection molding, and 3D printing.
Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., ASME Y14.5 GD&T) and regulatory requirements.
Ability to drive projects from concept to completion.
Excellent written and verbal skills for documentation, presentations, and collaboration.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of optical system architecture.
Experience with complex optical system design, analysis, testing, and implementation.
Experience performing detailed analysis, including thermal‑elastic & line‑of‑sight.
Experience with thermal management.
Preference for Siemens NX & Teamcenter experience.
Working knowledge of DFMA.
Salary Range US Salary Range: $146,000 – $194,000 USD. The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full‑time offers; and are considered part of Anduril’s total compensation package.
