The Senior Estimator is based in East Elmhurst, NY. The role involves coordinating bid documents, labor productions, subcontractors, vendor pricing, subcontractor and vendor buyouts, project start‑up meetings, owner estimates, requisitions, and cost-to-complete calculations.
Responsibilities
Thoroughly investigate specifications, scope of work, and drawings for a bid, developing a complete understanding of the requirements.
Accurately and timely perform takeoffs, calculations, and data analysis.
Conduct field visits to gather data on site conditions, verify production rates, and learn new construction techniques; adjust bid methods accordingly during the bidding process.
Negotiate cost, quality, and delivery using the company buyout procedure.
Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contract documents and identify potential risks; provide recommendations on risk mitigation and pricing.
Coordinate extensively with the Contracts department to resolve any contractual risks or issues.
Help develop pricing strategies.
Coordinate with Business Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to ensure bids are priced and submitted on time.
Draft proposals per RFP specifications with detailed pricing and clarifications.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
7+ years of estimating, engineering, cost‑tracking systems, and site surveying experience.
Excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) and plan/spec reading.
Experience with Primavera, HCSS, On Screen Takeoff (OST), and AGTEK is advantageous.
Excellent multitasking ability—managing multiple projects simultaneously.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; able to solicit subcontractors and vendors as needed.
Local agency experience (NYDOT, MTA, NYDDC) is preferred.
