Job Description This position is responsible for mechanical engineering on large‑scale projects, including mechanical system design from scratch, engineering analysis and calculations (stress, fatigue, acceleration forces, load calculations), material stress design, failure modes and effects analysis, risk assessment, component selection, and system installation and commissioning.
Responsibilities
Responsible for system design from a blank sheet of paper to develop mechanical component concepts based on project requirements.
Experience designing systems using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks preferred).
Provide input and system modifications as needed to support integration with other project disciplines.
Manage vendor scope to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance with all contract requirements.
Ensure designs comply with local, government, and applicable client codes and standards.
Develop project technical risk assessment documentation and implement mitigation strategies.
Perform design and analysis of safety‑critical components within mechanical systems.
Design redundant mitigation solutions to enhance system safety and reliability.
Design systems involving complex motion and integration with automated systems.
Develop comprehensive system configuration and design documentation, including:
Description of operation
Detailed mechanical system design descriptions
Engineering analysis reports
System implementation and acceptance test plans
Routine maintenance and job plans
Design and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Perform system analysis and calculations, including stress, fatigue, reliability, life expectancy, and tolerance studies.
Knowledge of ride system design for guest‑facing attractions is preferred.
Capable of working off‑shifts during installation and commissioning as required.
Qualifications
Strong organizational, technical, oral, and written communication skills.
Proven experience working in multidisciplinary engineering environments and interfacing with engineers, designers, and drafters.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
Degrees in related disciplines may be acceptable if professional experience is directly related to mechanical engineering.
Degrees outside the mechanical engineering field will not be considered.
Experience
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering roles.
At least 3+ years of experience designing mechanical systems from scratch or leading major system redesigns (50% or greater redesign).
Strong knowledge of GD&T techniques for large‑scale systems or systems with high duty cycles and fatigue requirements.
Preferred experience in ASTM standards, the attractions industry, and safety engineering.
Key Competencies
Knowledge of contract documents and technical specifications.
Ability to collect and accurately document field data.
Strong system design and analytical capabilities.
Demonstrated skills in planning, customer focus, decision‑making, communication, organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office environments is required.
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel up to 30% in worst‑case scenarios (typically up to 10% based on recent project requirements).
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include vision, color perception, hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, driving, lifting, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
Ability to mount and dismount equipment as required.
