We are currently looking for a Welding and Materials Supervisor for our Houston, TX or Owensboro, KY location.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for supervising the Welding and Materials functions within Asset Integrity to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant construction and maintenance activities across BWP’s pipeline system. The role provides technical leadership for welding procedures, material selection, material verification, material approvals during purchasing, and compliance with federal and industry standards. The position represents the company in a professional capacity and oversees engineering support, analysis, and documentation related to welding and materials.
Primary responsibilities include oversight of:
Welding procedure development, qualification, and approval (WPS, PQR, WPQ)
Consumable selection and storage oversight
Pipeline material selection and conformance with company specifications
Approved Material List (AML) governance
Material Test Report (MTR) reviews and traceability verification
49 CFR 192 and 195 material requirements
49 CFR 192 Subpart E & Subpart M welding compliance
49 CFR 195 welding and material specifications
Material verification program (TVC) alignment with Mega Rule requirements
Supporting internal and external stakeholders on welding and material issues
NCR (Non-Conformance Report) evaluation and resolution
Auditing of field welding practices and material documentation
Technical support for failure analysis involving welds or materials
Vendor qualification for welding services and material supply
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:
Ability to interpret and apply 49 CFR 192 and 195 welding and material regulations
Strong knowledge of ASME, API 5L, API 1104, AWS D1.1, and related industry codes
Ability to read and interpret Material Test Reports (MTRs) and mill certificates
Experience with welding procedure qualification, welder qualification, and weld inspection
Strong understanding of pipeline steels, material properties, and defect behavior
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to travel up to 20% and work in varied field environments
Ability to teach and communicate complex technical concepts to non-experts
PREFERRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE:
Prior hands-on experience in pipeline welding or inspection
Experience implementing or managing an Approved Material List (AML)
Experience developing or reviewing welding procedures and supporting documentation
CWI or SCWI certification
NACE / AMPP materials or metallurgy certification
Experience supporting PHMSA and state pipeline regulators, or industry audits
Prior supervisory or team-lead responsibilities
Experience in failure analysis and metallurgical evaluation
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
BS in Engineering or Materials Science
PREFFERED EDUCATION:
Masters Degree and / or P.E.
