Director, Packaging Shipping Systems (Logistics and Distribution Technology) Reporting into the Director Packaging Distribution, Components and Systems COE, the Director, Global Distribution Engineering and Technology will provide subject matter expert technical support for distribution and logistics of human health drug substance, drug product and finished goods globally. The packaging technical operations organization aims to be an industry leader in problem‑solving and delivering robust and pragmatic technical solutions.

The Director will lead a team of technical experts, support internal and external manufacturing sites as well as third‑party logistics providers, guide qualification activities, characterise real‑world distribution and translate findings into standard‑work across packaging platforms.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead, mentor and develop a team of technical staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Provide subject‑matter expertise and ensure scientific rigor, technical problem‑solving and execution excellence across the portfolio.

Provide strategic leadership for standard‑work development to characterize the real‑world distribution environment.

Ensure thorough engineering and distribution packaging science in deliverables for new product introductions and technology transfers.

Deliver development, design, construction, qualification/validation and/or initial operation of complex tertiary packaging components and processes.

Drive proactive risk‑management activities, including assessment, mitigation and communication strategies.

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure all platforms meet safety, efficacy, quality and robust supply standards.

Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to facilitate technical support and perform site‑support for investigations, complaints monitoring and rapid response activities.

Develop KPIs to measure and improve the effectiveness of COE support and manage a portfolio of work.

Remain informed of GMP, cGDP and industry trends.

Minimum Education Requirements and Experience

Bachelor of Science in packaging, mechanical, chemical, biochemical engineering, pharmaceutical science or chemistry with fifteen (15) years of experience.

Master of Science in the same fields with twelve (12) years of experience.

PhD with eight (8) years of experience.

Required Skills and Experience

Subject‑matter expertise in distribution technologies and processes across internal and external partners.

Expertise in development and qualification of package design and distribution/transportation technologies for pharmaceutical products.

Leadership experience managing a technical team in packaging or distribution operations.

Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills with the ability to interrogate science and identify risks.

In‑depth knowledge of global regulatory requirements for distribution including cGDP.

Ability to guide development of standard work, investigations and problem‑solving.

Strategic and analytical thinking focused on continuous improvement and best practices.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Hybrid Work Model Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office‑based positions will work a hybrid model of three days on‑site per week, Monday‑Thursday, with Friday as a remote‑working day unless business‑critical tasks require an on‑site presence.

Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $153,800.00 – $242,200.00. The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long‑term incentive, if applicable. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement, 401(k), paid holidays, vacation, and compassionate and sick days.
