Location: Chicago, IL, USA. Hiring Department: Neonatal ICU. Shift: Evenings (3 p.m. – 11:30 p.m., evenings/or weekends). FTE: 1. Number of Positions: 2. Posting Date: 12/19/2025. Illinois residency required within 180 days of hire.
Base Pay Range $32.00/hr — $67.00/hr
Previous determination: $36.08/hr – $80.98/hr. Final rate will be based on collective bargaining agreement, internal equity, candidate experience, qualifications, and budget.

Position Summary The Staff Nurse I provides direct patient care and improves outcomes by integrating shared leadership, evidence‑based practice, relationship‑based care, and nursing excellence standards into clinical practice. The role focuses on patient advocacy, education, and collaboration with the health care team, and supports unit goals and leadership activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develops, implements, and updates the patient’s plan of care based on ongoing assessment and family input.
Shares information and collaborates with other health care team members to promote effective patient care.
Verifies and implements orders from physicians or advanced practice providers, performing interventions and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record.
Engages with patients and families to develop educational plans.
Recognizes symptoms, prioritizes, and responds to changing patient needs.
Delegates tasks to support personnel per Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides support and feedback.
Advocates for patients, families, and the community, and for the nursing profession.
Integrates theoretical knowledge and evidence‑based research to provide quality patient care as defined by nursing standards.
Assumes the role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools.
Collaborates with other nurses to promote positive learning experiences for staff and students.
Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing, support staff, and students.
Takes responsibility for professional growth by identifying learning needs and initiating strategies to meet these needs.
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse with the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation.
Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
BSN, MSN, or DNP graduate of an accredited nursing program required.
Minimum 1–2 years of recent NICU experience.
Current BLS/CPR and/or other required unit specific certifications.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or within 6 months of hire for main hospital.
Must obtain STABLE certification within 3 months of hire.
Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships.
Intermediate computer skills with the ability to become proficient in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) with on-the-job training.
Excellent attendance, interpersonal skills and work history required.
