Offer Description The Sustainability Research Group at the University of Basel is looking for a Strategic Advisor for Cross‑Border Teaching (sustainability and social science focus). This is a limited term, 9‑month position at 70–75%, scheduled to start on 1 February 2026 and based in Basel, Switzerland.

Responsibilities

Develop sustainability‑focused course offerings, including flipped‑classroom formats such as the Pathways to Sustainability program.

Conduct a market analysis of existing sustainable development courses across Europe.

Support the strategic development of Bachelor’s and Master’s level courses at the University of Basel in collaboration with Eucor and EPICUR partners.

Context & Opportunities In your work, you will leverage European university networks Eucor – The European Campus and EPICUR, the European University Alliance, to expand the range of courses, provide high‑quality teaching, and enable students to gain cross‑border and intercultural learning experiences in sustainability.

Qualifications Applicants should have a background in the social sciences and hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as sustainable development, political science, political economy, public policy, global governance, sustainability research, sociology, or development studies. Expertise in sustainable global food systems is an advantage. You should be proficient in English and German, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong work ethic, attention to detail, an ability to work independently, and a high willingness to collaborate. Availability during the contract period is required and the start date is not negotiable.

Collaboration & Support You will work closely with Professor Janina Grabs (head of the Sustainability Research Group), Professor Alejandra Morán Ordoñez (head of the Landscape Ecology and Ecosystem Conservation Group), and another Strategic Advisor for Cross‑Border Teaching in a complementary field. You will have ample opportunity to develop your profile for future progression.
