Job Overview Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire a System‑Theoretic Process Analysis for Security (STPA‑Sec) Engineer (Level 2 or Level 3) to join the Sentinel Mission Defense Team (MDT) at Roy, UT. The position integrates traditional Systems Engineering skills with holistic system analysis to identify potential security, safety, and availability features using STPA, NIST, ISO, MBSE, and other industry frameworks.
Relocation Assistance Relocation assistance may be available.
Clearance Type Secret.
Travel Yes, 10 % of the time.
Responsibilities
Combine traditional Systems Engineering principles with a holistic system‑analysis approach to uncover potential security, safety, and availability features using the STPA handbook guidelines and MBSE workspace.
Generate structured requirements, decomposition strategies, and mitigations within STPA principles.
Understand and decompose systems to identify causal scenarios; construct control structures and identify unsafe control actions.
Assess and analyze threats, vulnerabilities, and risk for identified mission‑critical functions and critical components.
Lead and execute completion of Statement of Work requirements, Program Milestone Exit Criteria, and program maturity commitments.
Lead in a variety of working groups and customer meetings; ensure communication of risk environment with stakeholders.
Take initiative to act without prompting from supervisors.
Support MDT with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Level 2 Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM + 2 years of experience, or Master’s degree + no experience.
US Citizen; able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.
Successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances within reasonable time.
1 year applying Systems Security Engineering principles to U.S. Government Defense Programs.
1 year communicating technical approaches and findings.
1 year applying safety thinking to complex systems.
1 year applying analytical methodologies to data.
1 year performing against schedule.
Level 3 Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in STEM + 5 years of experience, or Master’s degree + 3 years of experience, or Ph.D. + 1 year of experience.
US Citizen; able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.
Successfully screened for Enhanced Security Clearances within reasonable time.
2 years applying Systems Security Engineering principles.
2 years communicating technical approaches and findings.
2 years applying safety thinking to complex systems.
2 years applying analytical methodologies to data.

Preferred Qualifications:
Active Top‑Secret clearance with SAP Access.
Direct experience with ICBM Systems.
Experience applying Program Protection principles to U.S. Government Defense Programs.
Applied knowledge of SSE principles across security measures (cybersecurity, counterfeit awareness, anti‑tamper, HW/SW assurance, OPSEC).
Experience developing Systems Security Engineering requirements for hardware and software assurance.
Experience with risk management and driving risk mitigations to closure.
Experience assessing and analyzing threats, vulnerabilities, and risk for mission‑critical functions and components.
Direct experience with MBSE concepts and tools (CAMEO, DOORS).

Salary Primary Level: $79,300 – $118,900. Secondary Level: $98,400 – $147,600. Base salary is determined by scope, responsibilities, and candidate credentials. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for certain positions, long‑term incentives.
