Offer Description The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting‑edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non‑communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programmes: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR ISGlobal is looking for an experienced postdoctoral B‑cell immunologist to become junior research leader to establish and consolidate a research line in molecular analysis of B‑cell responses and antibody discovery, with a focus on parasitic infectious diseases. Activities carried out aim to generate basic scientific knowledge on fundamental questions of the human immune response using next‑generation antibody science, and to perform translational research to develop innovative strategies for the treatment and prevention of infections, e.g., vaccines and immunotherapies, with a significant global health impact.

One of the main project is WORMVACS2.0, which objective is to establish an effective pipeline for helminth vaccine development focusing on schistosomes and hookworms, to support control and elimination of some of the world’s most devastating and persistent NTDs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of the position is to characterise the functional and protective roles of antibodies against parasitic infections.

As part of this research, the plan is to investigate the function and longevity of the immune memory to parasite vaccines, by analysing the B‑cell compartment and the antibody repertoire in samples obtained from field studies and clinical trials.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

PhD in biomedical sciences ideally advanced immunology/infectious diseases

Experience in molecular biology and immunology assays

Experience in B cell assays and flow cytometry

Basic experience/knowledge in processing, managing, visualisation, presentation and analysis of immunology data

Experience in design and interpretation of immunological, vaccinology and infectious diseases biosciences.

LANGUAGE LEVEL

Proficiency in Catalan, English, and Spanish.

Duration: until 08/2028 with possible extension

Starting date: January 2026

Contract Type: Full time

Salary: According to ISGlobal internal salary scale

SELECTION PROCESS

Interview phase of a technical nature, with the team that requires the incorporation, to assess the person’s skills and CV.

Meeting with HR with the finalists to finish assessing the profile and discuss contractual and institutional issues.

If needed, any technical test could be passed. A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.

In accordance with the OTM‑R principles, a gender‑balanced recruitment panel is formed for every vacancy at the beginning of the process.
